It's not new. 20+ years ago, there was some SoCal QB who had a nutso dad who did a variety of tricks to give him advantages in sports- especially football. Besides starting school as late as Jethro Bodine, he had intense sports development activities and such. Only thing lacking was exceptional talent. That dad probably was unpleasant to be around, maybe became the sort of youth sports coach who yelled at 8-year olds for not throwing strikes.

Both of my kids were August babies and we had choices on starting school. One started younger than most classmates, the other older. We generally chose correctly. Both played youth sports and the one with athletic talent played well and got a couple of years of free college soccer, the one with a talent level similar to dad played for enjoyment. Both are in their 40s and still like sports, but starting age hardly mattered.

He was at practice a few weeks ago. Didn’t know who he was then. One other kid there with him, wonder if we landed him too.

The other kid that was there was a blonde white kid. Sully was up in the stands talking to someone when they came out of the dugout. He quickly made his way down to greet them and their families.

Remember getting up at 4 am to watch South Korean baseball games during Covid when no one else was playing? Those were the days. ;)

Funny subject but it’s happening all over either at the time from pre-school to 1st grade, just go to another pre-school before starting 1st grade or when the child goes from middle school or 9th grade centers to high school. I’d bet 1/3 of my adult children’s friends with younger kids is doing this with their sons. I was a 17 freshman in college, the extra year in high school would have been fun.

The 7'7" kid that committed to the basketball team was the same height of his teacher when he entered kindergarten.

D1Baseball just started their 2024 transfer tracker. They list one Gator transfer named Jake Young. I doubt that's Jacob Young who transferred to the Nationals last summer.I like D1B, but they aren't perfect.

It doesn't have anything to do with current team, but I thought this was pretty cool to recognize Dane as he was the workhorse of the pitching staff all year.

    Something I'd like to suggest....
With the meltdown ongoing in Swamp Gas about the football team, I propose the UAA take all the football recruiting money and start using it for the baseball and men's basketball teams. We may not be a football school any more but we sure could lock in the baseball team and their success while making improvements to the men's basketball team's future. You put your money where your mouth is.
