I guess that your expectations were lower than mine for the season. We’ve only played 2 tournament teams, and we lost to both of them. We played three mediocre ACC teams and we beat two of them and lost to one of them. That is not what I expected to see during this early part of the season.
Saying that we’re the 13th best SEC team isn’t implying that we’re awful lol? Considering the circumstances 5-3 should’ve been expected. They pass the eye test for me. But as someone else mentioned, it’s too early to tell. We could fall off a cliff or we could be first in the conference. It’s a balanced league with no clear top tier or low tier team.
Disappointing start for sure but it is still too early to say. It does seem though like there is going to be a lot of parity in the SEC and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I try to write pretty simply and straightforward. I didn’t say that we were the 13th best team in the conference. Essentially, I said that, except for Vandy, what teams in the SEC are we clearly better than right now. I would say LSU, but they beat Wake and we lost to Wake. Can any of you say that, right now, we are clearly better than Ole Miss, Missouri or South Carolina? How about Georgia. I would add that I asked everyone about who we are clearly better than besides Vandy. All you have to do is name other teams and, hopefully, explain your basis for saying why we are clearly better than those teams right now. I absolutely am not saying that LSU, Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina and Ole Miss are better than us, but I can’t say that we are better than those teams right now.
We’re not better than them, but they’re not better than us? So you started this thread to say nothing? You just like talking in circles?
I am asking people for their opinions. Rather than posting a worthless post like you just did, you could say something like the Gators clearly are better than LSU, Georgia and Vandy. You also could explain why. That would be a worthwhile post.
That would be talking in circles. We’ll know who we’re better than in a couple months. I’ll just let it play out. Prognostication is for the birds.
I don’t care who is better than who in December. I don’t see the point of your thread honesty. Any rational person takes your thread as a shot at Florida. I think we’re around the 4th best team right now, but I don’t care about debating my reasoning because at this point it’s just a matter of personal opinion until the games are played.
Mississippi State lost at home to Southern. The Gators have no losses anywhere near as bad as that one. They have beaten Northwestern, Arizona State and Washington State but losing at home to Southern is a HORRIBLE loss.
I think perceptions would be a bit higher if it were not for the wake game. That one set up really badly though. They had lost to every decent team they played and had us at home in a game where they were due. Throw in the Valentine-factor and you get a crap sandwich. If the Gators were 6-2 right now with close losses to VA and Baylor, we'd likely be more optimistic. Ifs and buts, I know. Maybe the guys can put it together and become a really tough team. I hate that we lost Jarvis, but love the toughness of Clayton & Pullin. The freshmen are doing better than I expected before the season, so that's been a nice surprise. Let's get Handlogten healthy, Kugel/Richard more consistently on their game, and some improved FT shooting. Then the rest of the SEC can . . .
I think we have the talent to win the conference, but the way we play makes me think we end up in the middle of the final standings. It is hard to say which teams we are better than, because on any given night we can look like world beaters or just beat. The great coaches can bring the best out of their players every time they lace them up, and not have to lament in the post game presser about how the team lacked intensity in the 1st half, as if they are merely a spectator.
What SEC teams ae we clearly better than? None except for maybe Vandy. But turn it around. What SEC teams are we clearly worse than? Can't think of one.
Last year at this point we were 5-3 & our Net was #80. Same record this year but #49. The SEC had a Net of ≈ 76 then & now it is ≈ 80. We ended up 9-9 in the SEC last year. The team currently doesn't yet look cohesive, but imho we look better than last year.
lets worry about our out of conference games. We need to be 10-3 in my opinion to make the NCAA's. Right now we have no good wins but don't have any bad loses. Go into the SEC. 10-3 and finish in the top 8
Miss St looked great today. Ole Miss got an experienced Coach that knows what it takes to win. Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky are loaded. Texas A&M has kicked our butts for two years now and has bullied us, out coached us. Alabama has a tough team but are up and down as we are, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, Missouri included. Vandy has had personal problems which may or not work out. With all this being said, we will have our hands full every night and on the road the refs will be bias. The jury is out on us, Riley is not helping by shooting a very low percentage on threes and forcing everything inside and lobbing lazy passes like a freshman that has never seen been told to clean it up or ride the bench. CTG has to get this team to clean up its act. Too many wide open threes. When teams slow it down we need an offense that can spread it out and work till some one is open and a high percentage of shots are made. We need more mid range shots made and less chunks from behind the line. If Riley can hit more than 25%, he gets on the floor, if not he needs to sit. But with every lazy pass, he should get pulled from the game quick and shown the end of the bench. Good teams with talent will make us look stupid with his uninspired play. Florida will go as Riley goes, no pressure CTG!
Riley might be as talented as anyone in the SEC. That being said, he looks like a below average SEC starter right now.
