Both of those teams finished the season with a loss. One of them with a 41-7 loss to us, and Nebraska lost to fsu. Other than that, I agree with your post.
Someone was going to claim to be screwed this year. It should be the team with a the lousiest schedule and worst on field performances at the end of the year.
If it were, say, North Carolina, I would still feel like Bama, Georgia and possibly even Oregon should go first because of SOS. But since it’s FSU I would feel that way even if I didn’t feel that way.
What if the scenario was reversed? Let’s say Joe Burrow was injured for the first 2 or 3 games for 2019 LSU, and they lost one of those games. Burrow comes back and they smoke everyone else like they did that year. Would people then say “Well they lost that one game. The regular season matters. They shouldn’t be in the playoffs.” If you think FSU should be in, then you logically have to say LSU should have been out. In that scenario, I would vote LSU in. It’s the same reasoning as to why I think Bama should be in. They’re not the same team that lost to Texas just like FSU is not the same team w/o Travis.
A marginal LSU and a terrible Florida to address the first bolded statement. Bama even with the worst team in 15 years is still head and shoulders better than fsu. The two polls you mentioned are completely irrelevant anymore, and haven't been relevant since the inception of the playoffs. Closed doors, I may be mistaken, but I don't think the basketball tournament committee makes their decisions in front of a crowd.
No, not everyone. I certainly didn't because of what happened during the season when they lost to them the first time. You comment about fsu and factual results as it applies to speculation then use an absolute that everyone thought Oregon would clobber Washington, which is just speculation on your part. I actually based how I felt on factual results, you didn't. The Chiefs wouldn't get the boot if they had earned a guaranteed playoff spot by winning their division or being wild card. fsu did neither, as there's no guarantee that says if you win all of your games you get into the playoffs.
That's not the reverse. Let's use your scenario but Burrow gets injured in the LAST two games of the season. Then it's the same, the key difference is if they beat the SEC East champ in the SEC title game then they likely would be in as that team would probably be a top 10 or higher team.
So why even play the games? Just let professional oddsmakers choose the top four teams. Bama and UGA could sleep walk through 10-2 seasons and still make the playoff because Vegas would still have them a 3.5 point favorite against almost everyone. That's not how sports works. The games have to matter. Not speculation. As pointed out earlier, everyone had penciled in Oregon to beat Washington in a revenge game, they were double-digit favorites. Thank God they actually played that game and didn't let oddsmakers decide the winner.

I've asked you 2 questions and it's funny you don't answer them.. I'll ask again... 1) Where is FSU's quality win? What top 10 team did they beat? 2) IF going undefeated is all that matters, then why did FSU go to the ORange and not WVU in 93??? IF good losses dont' count, and quality wins don't count, AS YOU SAY, then FSU had no right to be in the Orange. So the 93 NC is gone. Poof.
I don't feel sorry for them or any team finding itself in that position for one simple reason. EVERYBODY AGREED to follow this process of the committee. Every year at least one conference champ has been left out. Usually it's the PAC 12 or Big 12. There is only 4 spots for 5 conf. champs.
If I were FSU I would feel robbed. That said, if Texas or Bama were left out and I was a fan, I would also feel robbed. But the truth is that only two teams showed that they were clearly above the rest this year, and that's Michigan and Washington. Typically the playoff has 3 teams with a genuine case and a 4th thrown in there for a clean playoff. This year under the BCS would've been pretty straightforward. Disclaimer: That doesn't mean the 4th team in can't win, as history has shown. I'm specifically talking about earning your way in, not your ability to win a 4-game playoff. If "ability to win a 4-game playoff" was the standard, Georgia should be a pretty safe bet. But there are 5 teams who have made a better case to earn their way in than Georgia this year.
You play the games because that is how you are judged. But I posted above the factors that must be considered for selection into the playoffs. If record was the only factor, Liberty would be in. But it is not. Your angst that FSU did not place in the top 4 is misplaced. The rules of selection were followed. Your argument ignores the rules of consideration, which I posted above at post 42.
The postseason was very different back then with the bowl coalition and tie-ins. Wasn't FSU tied in to play in the Orange Bowl based on where they finished? Also didn't FSU have some quality wins that year? Compared to WVU? I was a senior in high school so I don't remember that season very well, but I do remember us destroying WVU. FSU finished ranked higher than WVU in both major polls, so this isn't a really good analogy.
How about fsu and their slugging thru a game against a terrible Florida who, by the way, lost to Arkansas. A game that they should've lost. Bama beat a team for the conference championship that had gone undefeated, which was on the longest winning streak in college football, and had won the previous two NCs, and had played a much stronger schedule, and whose only loss was to the Big 12 champion and the 3rd seeded team in the playoffs, while fsu beat a very weak opponent in their conference championship game that had lost to an SEC team the previous week had played the weakest schedule in the top 8 teams being considered for the playoffs. If you didn't know who the teams were and I gave you the previous info and asked who you thought should be in the playoffs, would you really pick fsu?
