If it wasn't FSU, would you feel bad for them??

Ask an FSU fan how many points they'll give you on a $1k bet on the Orange Bowl. Surely if they're deserving of a Top 4 spot they can wax the #6 ranked team, right? If you're feeling nice you can even offer the bet with no spread at all, and see how many takers you get.

 

Well, when I was watching the FSU vs Louisville game, sure looked to me officials favored FSU. Often in that game it sure looked like Louisville was going to win it. Officials said no. Wonder how Louisville feels today about that game? Haven’t seen the media discuss that game, have we…..

It's a quality loss because it was to a top 3 opponent, yes.

How many great teams did FSU play again? The number is zero.
LSU was the best and they lost to OM.

And actually going 1-1 against 2 great teams is more impressive than going 0-0 against them.
Your point about the short season actually works against you.
It's far easier to go undefeated against a crap schedule in a short season. Far better to play a great schedule.

Like FSU did in 93. When they lost 1 game and went to the ORange instead of WVU who went undefeated.

 

I feel bad for FSU players. The way the defense played against LVille was impressive, like they truly believed they were playing for a playoff spot. Hats off to them for closing the deal and making them things hard for the committee.

But I still agree with what the committee did. Criteria is best 4 (with special factors like conf titles weighing in). Liberty is undefeated but we all recognize we shouldn't include them. FSU was the.only top 8 team who didn't play another top 8 team. Not necessarily their fault, they tried to bolster their schedule with two sec OOC opponents. But I don't believe that FSU team, sans Travis, has any chance last weekend against the rest of the top 8.

 

Watching that sh*tshow Louisville game killed any chance they had of proving they deserved to be in the playoffs. If they were truly a top 4 team they should have stomped a mud hole in Louisville

 

I agree. And other than Tex/Bama, the other teams played other teams vying for the playoffs near the end of the season. If fsu still had Travis or if they were the ones to beat uga and bama beat Louisville, then fsu is in easily. Those two factors along with their struggles against UF and Louisville is what kept them out.

You clearly along with the less educated semi’s pumping gas dont understand the meaning of selected. No where is it written that the only criteria is W/Ls. Prior this year that aspect resolved itself. For the non math majors 5 power conferences, 4 spots that is the reason for a selection process. If the top 5 were undefeated the semi’s were still left out as the weakest from the weakest conference this year. They just a weak candidate even w/o a loss in a weak conference. Their traditional model of success fails miserably when examined by a selection committee not sportswriters.

FTR Liberty U wasnt selected either but both would have been if the acc along with pac and the big10 didnt delay the implementation of the 12 team playoff. This year fsu wasnt worthy of SELECTION based on the team’s season performance and available players moving forward.

Sucks to be them but that is always the case.

FSU v Georgia (they’re currently a double-digit dog, before opting-outs are considered.

Ask yourself whether you would be your money, straight up at a neutral site, on FSU against any of the above teams.

The rational, objective person would not. FSU was not one of the top 4 best teams at the end of the season.

 

Except that the committee had more than two games to watch FSU's offense without Travis. Had Travis been injured in the Louisville game, I believe they would be in the playoffs.

 

No their overall opponent w/L would still be weakest of the top 6 and under .500 by a good margin

 

I don't feel sorry for Liberty, so no, I don't feel sorry for FSU. ACC is garbage football. Louisville was awful, look at their schedule. Look at the majority of their stadiums, small, half empty. It is the minor leagues.

 

They've never at any time this season looked like one of the top 4 teams in the country. As was posted somewhere else, they didn't mind being in the NC game the year they had one loss and West Virginia was undefeated. Hell, their one loss came to a one loss Notre Dame that was left out that year, so no I absolutely don't feel sorry for them, and wouldn't if they weren't fsu.
