Interesting proposal. This is likely the direction we're headed toward. Maybe a plea for the NCAA to still be part of it?
Yep, call it what it is. A semi pro developmental league for the NFL. $$$$$$$ No need for bag men and escalades just showing up in the dorm parking lots any more.
Maybe the long term outcome is one tier of $$$ semi pro teams and another tier of " traditional intercollegiate teams.
And there you go. I posted two years ago that real-estate, stock, and retirement investment packages, as well as housing, entertainment and transportation accomodations for the semi-pro should all be on the table. Anyone that thinks this is not happening or is "against the rules" - well, I got Pacific Waterfront in Arizona to sell ya if you think the money boys of College Football care about that! The question is, when the bids are higher out of H.S. than what the NFL offers journeymen players and butts head with the Players Union....what then? Saban was right - Form a Union for these kids as employee's of the College or College football will simply be ruled by the richest backers. As far as "going to class" LMAO - Only IF they want to!!!
NCAA president proposes creation of subdivision allowing schools to directly compensate student-athletes “Money distributed by the university would be subject to Title IX requirements, meaning half the allocated money would be required to go to female athletes.” In my best Jim Mora “playoffs” voice: {{{half???}}}
Would Gator fans still root for the same team (players) if they were a farm team - like the Gainsville Jaguars - rather than renting the Gator uniform?
If they end up going that route they should include the European soccer model where poor performing teams get relegated to the lower division and the top performers from the lower division can get promoted.
Gonna be honest, I patiently watched the whole thing hoping it would fall into water for at least a metaphor for a soft landing
Premier League here we come! Ah, the irony that college football is literally mirroring European "Football" in terms of the financial model. Next step: Stagger the payments so the "Big 6" get more of the TV money than the rest due to their popularity.
And you haven't seen anything yet. Wait until the transfer window becomes a literal Transfer Window a la Europe. Hell, seeing it right now with that kid at OSU. Transferring because he knows he'll get paid if he does.
Good post and real food for thought. I think success rate is also going to factor and "could" push it back the other way. That is, if these kids getting big money out of HS start flopping in the NFL (or before) at a high rate, the cost should go down. This is basically why we got one-and-done from the NBA. For every Kobe or Garnett there were 6-10 Kwame Browns, busts they threw big money in on.
The Florida Gators brought to you by big pharma versus the Georgia Bulldogs brought to you by big insurance. yuck!
I think you root for the wrong school. First off, what does this idiot have to do with UF's women's athletics? Second, we have and have always been proud of our success as a COMPLETE athletic program (historically the best in the SEC), including our women, many of whom have won gold for this country and brought glory to UF. Maybe try Bama if you're into the one-trick-pony thing.
