Weakest one of the year, imho. {{{BOO}}} Maybe they’ll put a 2nd one out this week on UGA losing, that was the story they should’ve mined.
I thought there were some very funny quips in it, like "Better go to the Wildcat!"...lol.... But overall....it was meant to be an EDITORIAL. Especially when that mood music kicked in towards the end. I'm OK with it.....part of the college football fabric......
They didn't get hosed, really. I think the committee got it right. Besides FSU missing their No. 1 player, FSU didn't dominate us, a team with a losing record, and their lackluster championship game makes a poor argument. Georgia lost to Bama in the championship game, last game of the season. It all makes sense. Particularly seeing it with Orange and blue glasses. Go Gators
Perhaps someone can explain how Ala. dominated a 6-6 Auburn that same week. with their #1 Qb healthy.
It's OK to admit that f$u got hosed. They are out of the playoff regardless. The committee's explanation that they were left out b/c their 3rd string QB (who wouldn't be starting in the playoff anyway) stunk up the joint in a 10 point win is trash. They had all night to come up with something better. The real answer is what the real answer always is: Follow the money. Can't leave the SEC out when there is a colorable argument to put them in. Am I happy the semis are out? Yup. Do I think they got screwed? Yup......
strength of schedule Has to be factored into these decisions. I just looked up sports illustrated strength of schedule rankings. The noles were the 78th team in strength of schedule. The gators were tied at number six.
I have no idea how I find myself defending the semis....I guess I'm just bored today while refreshing the portal announcements...but in any event here goes Strength of Schedule matters of course. But if you have the #1 SOS and lose every game 50-0, you still suck. Similarly, if teams that you expected to be good (e.g. Clemson, Miami and UF) suck and you win all the games you play, that has to matter as well. I honestly don't know what goes into "Strength of Record". I assume it measures your SOS vs whether you actually won the games. The semis SOR was #3 2023 Resume College Football Power Index - ESPN And looking at the list, it makes sense (i.e. not some goofy computer ranking that has Ohio State #2). P5 Conference champs finished 1,2,3,4,5.......
