i honestly can’t imagine many worse sequences to lose a game… conceding a layup; committing an offensive foul; fouling a 3-point shooter at the buzzer; the ball banking in and the free throw converted.

Ooof! If that’s “not even close” to the worst… I don’t wanna see worst! Lol!

I was probably off base thinking about more consequential games related to the title.

gotcha. More consequential … bigger impact losses… for sure.
As for losing sequence- this one ranks high! Lol!

For as smart as they must be, they reached a Forrest Gump level of sports performance. Allowing the layup was excusable. The inbound was awful. Just throw the ball at someone within the three point line and the game’s over. Then on Vermont’s inbound play, they’re all guarding within the three point line. They should’ve had all 5 guys outside of the three point line playing prevent defense. They should’ve welcomed an open layup.

Bad analogy. Forrest Gump was an All-American football player and world-class pingpong champ. Not to mention gifted distance runner.

He also had to be given the ball and told which way to run during the play. And the crowd had to collectively tell him to stop once he scored.

Irrelevant that he had to be given the ball. Barry Sanders, Larry Czonka, Emmitt Smith... they all had to be given the ball in order to score. And the play calls told them which way to run. And the crowd cheered them on. And Forrest scored and scored and scored.

1972 USA/USSR Olympic Finals was a terrible ending.

I still wake up screaming in the night about that. Felt really bad for the Colonel, though.

I knew Jacob from engineering classes I taught. After the 2014 loss in the Final Four my department chair brought him by my office knowing that I was a Gator basketball fan/season ticket holder without knowing that I knew Jacob from when he was a walk-on. I just said to him that it was a real shame that he didn't get to see the floor at the Final Four.

    Smart kid.

And trying to make the play and it just goes the wrong way is a tough thing. I don't blame him.

Virginia lost to Louisville in a similar way a few years ago. I remember ESPN had UVA’s likelihood to win at like 99.99% with 5 seconds left. And they lost by giving up like 2 three pointers in 5 secs (or something like that)

    Kurtz tip in at FSU.

Losing to Tennessee twice in 2006-2007 when we had the ball and shot clock was off.

South Carolina laying it in as time expired in a game with us up 1 when we were shooting the front end of a one and one with like maybe 2 seconds left. 2009.

Turning it over like 5 times in the final minute to lose at Arizona in 2011 or 2012.

That Yale game felt very Gator-ish!
