Don't get me wrong, today was a great day. I am THRILLED that I don't have to spend all of December worrying that one of UGA or even worse FSU gets another Natty. But it hurts that we've gone 14 years now and have had MAYBE one or two what I would call "UF caliber" years- 2012 and 2019 which were both 11-2 seasons. But that's it, in 14 years! Meanwhile we've seen both our rivals win national championships, go on long winning streaks, and of course beat us more often than not. Their success wouldn't be so bad to stomach if we were also good, but man these last three years have been brutal. And really our program since 2010...We just haven't been able to sustain anything since Tebow was suiting up. I want to be relevant again. I want to be on these college football playoff shows. When they reveal those top six each week, I don't think we've ever appeared in one. So.... Is Napier the guy that can take us there?
UF as a whole is not equipped to compete with the likes of those 4 behemoths in this new landscape of college football. The 100% buy in isn’t there.
Who’s talking about the Big 4? Who’s even talking about LSU and programs of that caliber? CBN is struggling to compete with Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Arkansas et al. Is our university ill-equipped to be competitive with those programs in terms of resources or tradition?
Looking at this article is NOT encouraging. Comparing statistics from years one and two under Billy Napier | GatorCountry.com
Billy will get one season with Lagway. But if that season is a disaster then Billy is probably a goner.
Man, I hope so. I guess we'll know more after the the new coaches are announced, the portal wins and losses have been processed, and early signing day has come and gone. Then at least we'll know if he has a decent shot! An improved defense would be on my wish-list, along with more bodies on the O-line. Mertz helps enormously. We have an formidable battle ahead, but I still have faith... And, yes, UF1998, it's nice that Georgia and Fl State won't be hoisting up a Natty trophy this year. Thank God! Go Gators.
If that’s all you want, we will get there sooner or later. Napier will get that worked out in the next few years. If your happy being in the playoffs ever other year and not beating the top 4 seeds, tgat shouldn’t be a problem. There’s probably 20 teams spending in that realm. Ther are or 10 or so that are going to outspend everyone else trying for those top four seeds. Watch the recruiting ranking and that should pretty much tell you who is paying the most. I think we will try to be at the top of that second tier and see if we can catch lightning in a bottle every few years. I doubt we ever string together top ranked classes several years in a row.
I don't know if relevancy means being a top 4 program. To me it means regular top 10 appearances, winning seasons every year, making and winning good post season games, etc... If you think a program isn't relevant to NCAAF unless it's a top four program consistently I guess your weirdly aggressive take makes sense but I don't think the majority would agree. I, for one, don't want to cheer for a football team that would hire the devil himself if it meant winning more games. Nor one that plays criminals actively under investigation. I'm ok with not being top 4
