I think you are underselling the importance of evaluation. Evaluation is what got us Mertz, the best portal QB last year. He was crapped on all off-season, but he was the best portal QB from the last cycle, and maybe the sole reason we got a power 5 win this year. We could have rushed things and ended up with Devin Leary who was a disaster for Kentucky this year. I think we need to hit the portal for at least one QB, one WR, one OT, one DT, one LB, and one S. It also sucks that we lost Keyaunta Goodwin. That one was out of Napier's control. He was our answer in the portal for OT. Hopefully, all of our portal players stick around for the season this time around.
Of course. The sources I have been providing are their academic status. Per various different sources mentioned in my posts Ruiz nor the other two qualify as a grad transfer because they have not graduated. They could be a sixth year on the football team and still not graduated with a degree in anything so they would not qualify as a grad transfer. They could still go to the portal starting tomorrow but we would not have been allowed to reach out to them prior to tomorrow.
Once the portal opens up let's see what the staff does. I have to believe things are being worked on behind the scenes. If we slow play this and whiff on good players you can pretty much wrap this tenure up.
What happened to spurlock? I guess moten was a product of michigan knowing the opposing teams play calling lol. Mitchell was….desperate. George is a guard forced to play tackle. But spurlock was supposed to be young and promising
Not being a pain but guys like Farrell Disagree. here’s the thing, there are plenty of guys out there. We could have talked too early, so let’s hope that we did. Right now it only shows one offer extended and if we wait on that one and don’t aggressively pursue him, he will be gone within three or four days.
Yup, that’s my point, slow playing has to be done. That whole “we’ll build it” theme is not working. Too many others have shown that you can win in year one and year too, and it absolutely hurts your team and recruiting when you are not winning eight, nine, or 10 games a year. When I say hurt team, I mean you see good players transfer.
We just need to get some quality starters. Other than those Billy brought with him from Cajuns, have not seen any dominant transfers other than Ricky and perhaps Mertz. The Memphis and Louisville DL were average at best. The LBs from Houston, Michigan State, and Memphis were below average. The salary below average. Bowman at WR awful. The OL were average to below average. Would like a dominant starter like FSU has recruited. FSU has much better portal talent evaluators

Agreed. We were hit or miss in the portal. George was supposed to be a backup this year before Goodwin transferred out. Goodwin is the guy we brought in to be the starter. His departure was unfortunate. If Waites emerges, then maybe we don't have to depend on George as much next year.
With the defense being so bad it may have mattered less, but Goodwin might have made a huge impact on our offense. Bad luck.
