He did. The problem was Muschamp couldn’t get out of his own way. He should have let his OC’s have unchallenged command over the offenses. It also didn’t help that Derrick Henry wanted to be a RB for UF but Muschamp insisted that he be recruited as a LB. That was probably one of the biggest recruiting fails in the last 20 years.
Then why even have a Lagway package. Mop up maybe. I hate switching qbs unless it was the Tebow short yardage thing .
Mertz as Leak and Lagway as Timmy is an intriguing prospect for next year. However, how far that gets us is going to depend on one thing and one thing only - the progress our o-line makes.
Yeah, he had two options: he comes back and develops his game more or he gets on with his non-NFL life. Methinks he likes where he is under those options. Now, about that O-line and its "coaching"...
This is a win for Mertz and the program. He will bring experience and leadership to a very young team, and most importantly, guarantees a transition for Lagway. He and Cam returning tells recruits that good players want to play here at Florida. This is good, folks, embrace it. Like others have said, I think Lagway plays a lot next year in specific roles.
On the Buddy Martin Show, Urban Meyer admitted that as good as Tebow was in 2006, he was not ready to be the starter. A potential Hall of Fame coach just reminded us that a Hall of Fame quarterback was not ready to be a starter as a freshman. I think that opinion carries some weight.
I agree! Also, at that time, the starting QB was a guy named Chris Leak. Who did more than an OK job of running the Gator Offense.
That hardly ever happens. Has Manning been getting regular game reps at Texas? I just don’t see it. It would need to be a package that creates an advantage to win games. Wins will be at a premium next year.
Tebow package gave us an added advantage that Leak didn’t. Third and one and it’s obvious Tebow was a big advantage.
He could transfer. He could enter the draft. He could hang up his cleats. There was no guarantee that he was coming back.
And I believe Lagway will give us that advantage over Mertz in short yardage. He's a big dude. And may be a better surprise passer or RPO than Tebow.
He’s going to have that package, he is going to have to come in on obvious running downs, and run the ball. Sure Tebow passed the ball on many of those times too but it’s not the bread and butter.
Doesn't have the eligibility to transfer and his draft profile had him not being drafted. So I guess he could have hung up the cleats or come back and play and collect NIL money.
