The 6-1 UF Women's BB team travels to Huntington, WV to take on Marshall (2-4) Saturday at 1 pm on ESPN+. Marshall has beaten Point Park and Chattanooga, with losses to George Mason, Northern Kentucky, Wright State and Morehead State. Marshall has 86 assists to 105 turnovers and they only shoot 23% from the 3 point arc. Their leading scorer is Roshala Scott, a 5'8" guard averaging over 21 ppg. The only other players averaging in double figures are grad senior Abby Beeman, a 5'4" guard averaging 15.8 ppg. and senior Breanna Campbell, a 5'5" guard averaging 11.2 ppg. This should be a win for the Gators, as Coach Finley continues getting her team used to playing road games prior to the SEC schedule.
Has there been any discussion on why UF has scheduled three consecutive "buy" games vs Marshall, Tulsa and Gardner-Webb on the road? I get maybe one of these games on the road, but three? OK, there is a "craft festival" in the O'Dome tomorrow but the other two game dates are open. It seems rather odd that a P5 school would schedule this way especially against Gardner-Webb.
I heard one of the Gator announcers say that one of the top improvements Coach Finley wanted to see out of this year's team over last year's was road performance in conference play. Last year they had 8 pre-conference games at home, 3 at neutral sites and only 3 true games on the opponent's floor. We were only 2-6 in SEC road games and she wants to improve on that record, thus more pre-conference away games.
Florida leads 27-21 after the 1st quarter. High scoring game so far. Correa off to a great start for the Gators with 10 points.
Yeah - Not playing very good defense. Kind of letting them dictate the up and down pace, plus they've hit 7 3's and are rebounding with us even though we have a distinct size advantage.
Gators up 43-40 at the half. Only scored 2 points the last 3:30 of the 2nd quarter and letting an inferior team hang around.
Cleaning my house to put up my tree..so checking in I see with 5 minutes left we are up 61-52 but already have 7 fouls?
talk about some home town refs, this has been very interesting how they have been calling fouls on us
Seems like we should be going inside more. I know Mathura and Correa are our top scorers, but jacking up 3's when we have a distinct size advantage just seems like tempting fate.
88-85 UF with 2:44 left. Playing horrible defense and relying too much on outside shooting. Good thing they've missed 13 free throws.
I knew this would be an interesting game with the way they play like the old Loyola Maramount teams in mens basketball. Plus playing there with a hostile crowd and not being home for awhile. I just dont think we are playing real smart right now. We have a huge size advantage but the girls are not using it
