There is serious concern over whether a workable deal will be possible between the two parties on debates. Last one was cancelled in 2020 and there is no commitment by either party as of yet for 2024. Trump has refused to debate any of his GOP primary competitors. I think if just one candidate isnt Joe Biden or Trump they will occur. Id say none occur if they are though. https://thehill.com/opinion/congres...eres-how-we-can-save-this-valuable-tradition/ The Commission on Presidential Debates announced the forthcoming slate of debate sites for presidential election season 2024. Since 1976, there have been consistent televised presidential debates in the United States. Originally broadcasted and conducted by the League of Women Voters, the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) took over the sponsorship and organization of the debates in 1987. The impending election raises the most serious doubts about whether this televised debate series will continue. Both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Republican National Committee (RNC) have refused to commit to the proposed debates of 2024 that are to begin in San Marcos, Texas, next October. Serious problems in the last several CPD events may prevent the necessary parties from agreeing to debates that are typically viewed by 50 to 100 million Americans.
I'm not sure it matters as I don't think most people are voting for either based on anything they say
Trump doesn’t need debates to get his message out. His rallies are packed and the media attacks on him are all he needs. I would like to see weekly debates of 1 hour between 2 candidates at a time, same party and against adverse party. Tonight’s Desantis v Newsom as an example. No moderator questions. Let each candidate make a point and ask their opponent to respond. Back and forth for 1 hour.
I can't imagine they won't happen, and if they do happen, I hope Biden comes out swinging. Trump has given him TONS of material to attack Trump with. Basically litigate every case he has ongoing in the public eye.
I think the number of voters who find American presidential debates informative, as opposed to performative, is very small indeed. But hey, if you love to watch a hot mess presided over by moderators too afraid to insist on direct answers or to maintain order over the candidates or audience, then grab your popcorn.
Like every other incumbent running for reelection facing a largely symbolic challenge from within his own party. An incumbent president running for reelection has never agreed to participate in a debate with a candidate or candidates challenging him for his party's nomination. Anyone remember Trump's debate(s) with other candidates challenging him for the Republican nomination in 2020? I don't and in fact a number of State Republican Parties didn't even bother to hold primaries not that it would made any difference. Anyone remember the Ford-Reagan debate(s) of 1976, the Carter- Kennedy debate(s) in 1980 or the (George H.W.) Bush debate with Pat Buchanan in 1992?
so you want Biden to attack Trump with the prosecutions which are driving Trump’s lead in the polls? Is this some sinister plot to be able to blame Biden‘s 2024 loss on his dementia?
Any candidate debating either Trump or Biden would crush them. Probably a reason trump is so scared to debate other repubs. The juxtaposition of him against another Repub candidate would shine a bright light on Trumps mental instability, immorality, and his zero vision for our country other than self-serving for Trump himself. Same with Biden and his mental acuity if he debated a dem candidate. I really, really don’t want Trump vs Biden II
And I was directly responding to a post in which the poster noted Biden's apparent refusal to participate in primary debates. I would add that he was responding to another post in which that poster raised the issue of Trump's refusal to participate in any of the Republican primary debates.
Maybe give him a two handed sword. Trump: Two handed broad sword Biden: Short sword and shield The duel is to the death. The winner becomes President and we get to skip this election cycle. My terms are absolute.
