i actually defer back to my preseason thoughts as to starters… pullin, clayton, Kugel, Samuel and handlogten. But I thought the personnel rotations in-game we’re off last night.
Maybe. But we're a better team when we speed the game up, so I can't fault the decision to stay in man-to-man.
the refs already eviscerated us by that time and completely altered our mojo I’m glad CTG called out the refs in his post game.
But, we CAN win and sometimes don’t, far worse than any other outcome. It’s hard to beat a decent team away with Ted Valentine on the court. He calls so many fouls, unevenly, and literally the game is about him, not the players. I’ll research this but he had to coach in the SEC because why would I remember he is a terrible, unfair ref?
Why I mentioned utilizing the press. Our guards are faster and more athletic. And Wake looked completely lost when we did finally press in the final 50 seconds. I think a press and zone would’ve been wiser given the circumstances. But if our players are hitting their shots you can go man and play more conservatively. A good coach puts talent on the floor. A great coach puts talent on the floor and makes the proper in-game adjustments.
Check out Ted Valentine on YouTube and the net. Why is he all over the place? As I thought, he is narcissistic, egomaniacal, and self absorbed. One ACC coach even said he would take Valentine for any game he had. Of course he would. Refs like Ted Valentine make watching games tedious and not fun and will guarantee one team’s coach, players, and fan base wish they never see him again. That is your legacy Ted.
You do want a guy coming in with confidence to shoot. Aberdeen’s 1st attempt was definitely within the offense and a wide open look. It rattled in and out. I think he took another 3 right after that (same possession?) which maybe wasn’t as good a look but not terrible. The only really “bad” shot I recall was his pull up from the right baseline. At that point the shot selection was annoying. Of course other guys did dumb stuff too (driving to nowhere, and then turning it over). Ultimately, the problem is shooting 0-4. If he was 2-4 we’d probably be praising his minutes.
Probably this and probably that? His post game interview was a lot like our defense. Not really serious about it. If you are not getting the calls on the road, you extend your bench and have the bench players take some of the fouls away form your starters, but you do not let the other team dictate the pace of play. I swear he acts like an NBA coach and I can't stand the NBA. Oh the shots weren't falling for us tonight and they were for our opponent. La Dee Daa.... They got the calls tonight and we didn't. Ho Hum... If that is the way things are being done, then I probably need to dial back my give a crap as well. I am not getting paid for this.
The officiating looked uneven, but I am so done with excuses. Just win baby. We were up by 9 in the second half before we imploded.
Give Rishwain Aberdeens minutes, which aren’t much. We would get a better shooter, better basketball awareness. Last night we could have used Kajus some quick minutes at point guard because Zion’s head was not in the game and he can distribute differently and it could have possibly thrown Wake Forest into chasing him and wearing them out. Definetly could have used the bench better on an off night. It’s early in the season and we need to find out which players game time can shine. We are going with players that weren’t playing very good last night, the coach has to find out who is bringing it on any night. Nope, we just kept going inside and getting hammered. Our outside shooting needed to be re-lit. Aberdeen is not a go to shooter, forces the ball and either loses the ball, gets blocked or just misses when we need a confident shooter to ignite the team. Last night showed we can’t play half court on offense or defense. I knew our learning to play together would take time but this is what all teams that play us will do. Half court, bully ball and take it inside to our freshmen bigs and Samuel who gets emotional and is moping from the look on his face and the refs are targeting him to lose his cool. Well, he was playing his part last night. Work on half court defense and setting screens on offense, last night we took an off night on being ready to play a talented starting five. I said before the game, they would have the refs, the fans and the team ready, we flat out weren’t ready. Lots of work for our coaches and CTG needs to get into the refs heads throughout the game. He finally showed a little emotion at the end but in the flow of the game it hurt us all night. The refs then had the green light to make sure we couldn’t get up. Very discouraging!
Not really- sometimes they become more aware of the disparity and try to make the numbers appear better, but the timing and nature of the calls is everything
I totally disagree. He was absolutely angry, and I thought his analysis was spot on. Both the Defense and officiating were terrible. He was not “La Dee Da” or “ho hum” about any of it.
Seriously? He looked lost and over his head 99% of the time. He must've been getting paid a bonus for saving all of his timeouts during games. Only coach we've had that never used a timeout was Norm Sloan, and I don't think Norm knew what they were.
My main gripe with Ted Valentine and Doug Shows is that they act like the fans came to see them and not the game.
I usually don’t like the blame it on the refs theme when we lose but it was a back-and-forth very close game until the rest took it over at the end. Have to agree terribly one sided calls. Golden should complain to the league and send tape.
