Gee, it seem like only yesterday that I was reading on this board that it would take 2 or 3 years. I don't know when the offense became such a problem. I watched every game and saw a defensive melt down that blew game after game. On offense I did see huge--shoot in the foot-- mistakes that stopped drives, frequently by the same player. I assumed that if there were someone better, that player would have been on the sidelines. I also saw an offensive line that was totally inconsistent. I think I read pre-season that that was expected. I guess there is no point in a message board if you can't bitch about the coach. One thing we all know. UF better give Napier a fair chance to right the ship. Otherwise --coaching grave yard. On second thought maybe they will line up for a short stay. After the Jimbo fiasco maybe coaches like it in the graveyard. Nothing like a life of leisure where money flows like honey; and ESPN offers a chance to pontificate about someone else's problems once a week with no accountability.
This is a valid question. How does one define "successful?" Let's look at each coach's SEC record the first three years, going back to Bob Woodruff in 1950: Spurrier: 19-3-0 (.864) Mullen: 19-7 (.731) McElwain: 16-6 (.727) Meyer: 17-7 (.708) Graves: 12-5-0 (.706) Hall: 12-5-1 (.694) Zook: 16-8 (.666) Muschamp: 13-11 (.542) Pell: 7-11-0 (.389) Woodruff: 7-11-0 (.389) Dickey: 7-12-1 (.375) Napier: 6-10 (.375) So, where do we draw the line? When to cut the cord and when to wait?
Unfortunately, Vandy and Arkansas aren't on the schedule next year, and Kentucky is far from being a bottom feeder. They are 61-40 the last eight years, while we are 59-41. Heck, Miss State finished with the same record as ours after Leach died, and Arnett was fired. So I guess our objective is to beat Miss State. Problem with that is that the game is in Starkville, and those damned cowbells.
Yes, it does mean Miss State. And, yes, it does mean Kentucky. And, yes, Kentucky is still just Kentucky. And, yes, it’s beneath us to lose to them ever.
Whelp, the good news is: Wait a second here... Like usual, we'll have to patiently wait. So much is happening right now it's crazy. The portal opens. Kids are leaving. So far the ones going make sense. The trick is can we get the 'Glen Gary' leads... Filling the coaching spots would be nice. Getting the big guys, would be nice. But...patience, Grasshopper. Greed is good. Avarice is acceptable. Hope has been called and is currently in transit. I'm trying to look at social media less right now for my own personal sanity. I'm developing a nervous tick. So there's that! Go Gators.
Yep, no one is going to roll over for us if we just toss that orange helmet out there. We ain't the mighty Gators any more. Someday, I hope that changes.
Oh, in that we are agreed. In the meantime, I refuse to normalize losing to these teams. First step on the road to recovery is not beating Georgia or Alabama. It is routinely beating these middling SEC teams. If that is beyond the capabilities of this coaching staff, then we will know that next season.
It's so hard to tell of course because so much can change but I see 5-7 maybe 6-6 if we can steal one. 4-8 if no special teams coach is installed.
4 years is where Norvell is. After two like Napier, all the fsu idiots wanted him fired. Good thing schools don’t let casuals make decisions.
It’s going to be tough no matter how well Napier and staff does. Wins will be at a premium next year. Not too many gimmies.
The team can be vastly improved next year and still end up with the same record. That 2024 schedule is rough.
Give Norvell our schedule this year and they are a 4 plus loss team right now. They have barely beaten some pretty bad teams this year and he has only beaten one top 20 team in two years. Some of his performance is related to the fact Clemson is on the downward spiral and that was pretty much their only tough game all year. Are they better...yes but when they see real competition its going to be ugly.
Sounds pretty good. With Travis , I’d say the are the betting favorites against all but Georgia. Sure they may not win em all but the idiots wanting Norvell fired after year two have went to their corner and shut the hell up. No idea where Napier will go but I’m not going to be a whiney impatient little bitch in the meantime,
