Exactly. Coaches can't control effort or execution. They can replace those who continually lack one or both.

Just saying not everything is the coach’s fault and the players need to be accountable as well. I know you can’t fire the players, but if you’re playing the ones that aren’t performing maybe it’s because the coach is stuck, playing someone who doesn’t do what he coaches them to do or play someone that’s even worse??? Changing the coach is not a guarantee the players will suddenly start blocking or tackling. If that were the case then everyone left from the previous staff would be doing better. Player accountability is just as important as the coaching.

I think what you are trying to negotiate is called "depth". I would say that "depth" is much better this year than last. Wilson did not play this year for whatever reason. Others did not also. D-line had plenty of it, albeit not elite.

If a player is not taking coaching, he goes to the sideline. Then the next player is on audition. And if that player is also less-than-ideal, you go to the next. Guess who gets to decide who is doing (or executing well) what is being coached?

Yep, the coach. Otherwise, player selection is arbitrary or based on stubbornness or incompetence. These traits are NOT the fault of the players.

Feel free to tell us who you’re replacing and with whom. Top LB injured. Multiple OL injured. Depth is a valuable commodity if you have it. We’ve heard over and over that the team was depleted of talent so who you going to put in?

It is called "tough love". Do you ever recall times when a basketball coach pulls each and every starter on the court and replaces them with the subs and even walk-ons? It sends a signal that the product is NOT acceptable.

To answer your question, there are about 100+ players who are dressed. Put one in and send a damn message.

Not at every position, OL not blocking who’s your replacement to send a message? Can’t use injured players, or guys in other positions. So who’s your replacement?

If they’re not red shirted and can keep the people from getting hurt sure. Kearney and Harris were RS. And before you say skip the red shirt, that’s been debated for years as to whether or not to burn a red shirt yr for short term gain.

You have no guarantee that a player will stay 3 or 4 years or even one now with the portal. Play the best you have that gives you the best chance at winning.

And Mitchell for me. He puts his head down, sticks a shoulder out, and ole's opposing players all the time. Absolutely terrible "tackling" technique.

And they should know better than to blame the players, becasue we've had freshman in the past that could and did tackle well in the open field.

    Ahhh..the circular argument.

Maybe they were more talented, and better players.

I'm pointing out that we should get coaches that teach that.

And my "argument" has been very steady and on point the whole time...

I don’t disagree. I said at the beginning that players need to be held accountable for not doing their job on the field. If they don’t do what the coaches are teaching them to do then put someone else in, if you have the ability and available players do do so. If the players are doing what the coaches want then blame the coaches completely. I doubt the coaches are telling them not to block or tackle.

Very good point. What’s the point of intentional redshirts anymore?

    The bench is nonexistent.

You can question coaches teaching methods and effort but we didn't just pluck them off Craigslist.

I am not saying this about Kimber...
But I have REPEATEDLY noticed TWO things this year on defense:
    1. Our players are being taught to tackle high. Take out the ball carrier's source of balance and power and guess what, they go down.
Watch our defense. They want to tackle high and try to ride the ball carrier down.
    NOT good!
    2. Our defensive backs don't CONSISTENTLY like to put their heads in there and tackle. It's like they don't want to get hurt?
Watch the replays of the games.
These two facts blaze out at you.
    WORST I have ever seen.
The Kentucky, Arkansas and FSU game loses were blatant.
