Max Brown, Kamari Wilson, Will Norman reported to be headed to the transfer portal

Bummer that Max Brown is leaving. I suspect it will be hard to get a no. 3 guy to come here through the portal.

Wilson’s dad is saying that he has not informed anyone that he plans to leave.

Going to need another half dozen or so to hit the portal or declare early to make room for the incoming hs class though, and likely a few more to make room for transfers. Be prepared for more.

 

Due to NIL and loosening transfer rules, every school is going to lose a bunch of players every year. Just have to hope none of them are major contributors and that the guys we get are better than the ones that left. Napier needs to hit the portal hard and often this season because 2024 is a make or break year for his future, IMO.

 

Very limited opportunity for Max assuming Metz comes back and DJ makes it to campus. Good luck Max.

You are correct.
If we play the what if game:

1. Mertz will be the starter next season with Brown as the backup QB, and DJ going the Red Shirt status.
2. Now, Mertz will still be the starter, and DJ will be the backup. Hopefully DJ will get enough reps so that he will be ready to step in when needed.
3. Napier, will have to go to plan B if DJ does not sign, and Lord knows who will step up if Mertz goes down.

 

I have not seen any indication that DJ is having second thoughts. I’m going to assume he’s in.

So i would assume that it's a given that Mertz is coming back? Cause if he wasn't max be competing for the starting spot.

 

I’m confused on the Max Brown decision. Quarterback room appears thin, with Lagaway being a true freshman. Plus, doesn’t Max also play baseball? How many other programs will allow him to play two sports with one of those teams a national title runner up?
