They have won NCAA first round games as a 15, 14 and 13 seed against Cuse, South Carolina and Indiana but this is a long time ago.

IIRC they did upset Iowa in 2022 in the first round.

This game is on ESPNU that I don't get on Gainesville Cox Cable and the only ESPN games I cannot get with ESPN+. So either Gator Dockside or Hogan's Heroes to watch the game. Better TV's at Gator Dockside but proper Guinness stout on tap at Hogan's and a nice neighborhood vibe.

Us oldsters remember The Press Box on south 13th. I watched NC State beat Houston in the finals there because I didn't have cable. Watched earlier games at Nellie's Raw Bar.

Richmond is also ranked #78 in KenPom. So definitely a dangerous team.

I've been away from Gville for 12 years now, but am surprised Dockside is still open. The food & service were always meh. Only appeal was a nice big open sports bar w big screens. I'm with you about Hogan's being the better choice. Plus, you might get some free entertainment from the locals.

Its ironic how similar these two teams are with each of their starting 5. If Micah is back then we should have the edge. The better difference is our depth if we get them into foul trouble. I'll be watching the defensive matchups on both sides for any better opportunity than just depth.

Tyree Appleby was All-ACC last season because of his points and assists. Despite that, Wake is better off without him. He is not a winning type of player. Wake went 4-8 in its last 12 regular season games, which included quite a few very close games that Tyree lost for Wake by trying to do it all by himself in the last few minutes. In my opinion, Tyree’s departure is addition by subtraction for Wake, unless he is replaced by a similar player.

Definitely. Anyone else remember Hogan's Heroes Corner Pocket in Newberry Square (Newberry & Tower)?

In terms of NET rating (offensive and defensive points per possession per 100 possessions)

Last year with Tyree Appleby on the floor Wake Forest had a +8 NET Rating (116 O, 108 D)
With Appleby on the bench Wake Forest had a -34 NET Rating (90 O, 124 D)

He was incredibly valuable to them.

    Eric:

I watched the latter parts of several
neck and neck Wake games last season, and Tyree’s arrogance cost them games. The reality is that he has been a loser at every school he played at.

I lost a few hair follicles because of Appleby, but one thing I’ll say about him is that he always put it all on the floor. He played with all heart and at times did look like a terrific player. But I don’t think he was a natural point guard.

having also watched several Wake games last year, I mostly agree with Jack - Appleby remains a high usage, low efficiency player who doesn't take care of the ball and makes poor decisions with his shot selection, especially in big moments.

you have a point about his value to the Deacons as one of their few reliable ballhandlers and shot creators, but they weren't a very good team and he was a big reason they fell apart down the stretch - through WF's last 19 games in January-March where they went 9-10, Tyree shot 38.6% from the field while jacking up a whopping 14 attempts/game (his next closest teammate took 11 att/g).

Wake Forest is 3-3 coming in to tonight's game with Florida. Their games in order: Elon W 101-78; Georgia L 77-80; Utah L 70-77; Towson W 71-61; LSU L 80-86. They're shooting 47.1% from the field, 36% shooting 3's and 82.6% from the free throw line. They have 4 primary scorers - Hunter Sallis 6'5" JR guard 18.3 ppg, Cameron Hildreth 6'4" JR guard 17.8 ppg, Kevin Miller, 6'0" R-SO guard 17.3 ppg and and Andrew Carr 6'10" SR forward 15 ppg. No other player is averaging more than 4 ppg for them. This is a game the Gators should win unless we get in foul trouble and keep sending them to the line. We, also, have to be better at guarding the 3 point arc.
