I don't know what their actual times/speeds are. So much of lb play is instinct, read and react. Miller was slow but knew where to go. I have high hopes for James.
Isn’t nunnery pretty fast? I think he’s the guy who was the special teams ace at Houston right? With Al or Jose blocked punts? Gotta be quick if you’re a linebacker blocking punts
Same story every year. We get great athletes who haven't played the position and are about ready in year 4 or never get there, and the experienced inside LB we recruit are slow as mud.
Saw them play at the beginning of the season, and yes I felt they were at best average defensively. On offense they had a number of kids I felt had D-1 talent (QB, hB, WR, and a couple of Soph OT that looked very good). Did you happen to watch any of the game this past Friday or you just makin assumptions based entirely on a score?
Lakeland's offense is pretty damn good. Normally when a team scores that easily, the running clock take effect negating the possibility of that number of points being typically scored.....But Lake Minneola kept scoring to keep it within 35 points, preventing that from happening. Ive seen a number of times before the running clock came into play during the 80's, a number of elite HS offenses easily put up 60-70 points.
That doesn't mean they have an average defense. Average defenses don't give up that many points. Poor defenses do, however. Elite high school offenses may score that many, but only awful defenses give up that many. To give up that many in a 48 minute game means Lakeland's offense had to have scored on every virtually every possession.
Did you see how many points Lagway's team gave up in the 3rd round of the playoffs last week and they were undefeated? Venice scored 77 points in a state title game, Miami Southridge scored 69 in a state title game and those are just scores from the FHSAA largest classifications at the time, you think those teams didn't think they had at least average defenses going into those games.....it happens. Pointless to continue to argue about a teams defense, you make it to the 3rd round of the playoffs. Lets see what Bulhholz got going for its defense this coming week against Lakeland......I believe both defenses are about average and why I expect a high scoring game. Watch what Venice does to Deland in its Semi final game......Venice will probably put a 50+ spot up as well, as Venice simply has a elite offense this year. Venice has a back that is a junior Jamarice (Gator) Wilder, I hope the Florida staff is looking at....
Vote for Myles for Florida 2-way player of the year! https://highschool.si.com/florida/2...-2023-cast-your-vote-for-the-top-2-way-player
Great to see this kind of scene returning to Gainesville area high schools. Buchholz band performing in the central part of Buchholz for an impromptu morning pep rally for the Final 4 game today. Good for the kids, the schools, the football and the fans around here. Been far too long since Gainesville challenged the South Florida schools on a consistent basis for the big-classification titles.
