At his essence, quirky, smart, arrogant and lazy. He would rather be wake boarding than recruiting. Props for personal life, but no. No lazy coaches. Mac was the same way, more interested in his secret sauce than the teams. Any CEO that has to be forced into decisions is not a CEO. Period. Back to the regularly scheduled happy hour
Off the top of my head Jermaine Johnson started at UGA and then transferred to FSU before he got to do much and he was good. Mertz arguably wasn’t anything special at Wisconsin and got better here. But others like O’Cyrus, Verse, and Jamyr Gibbs transferred “up” and seem to be more the rule. Pearsall has obviously been great for us but it is hard to say whether we are on any better footing to say we’re a step up from ASU but at the last we have more visibility.
which is why I think this portal season is the most important 45 days of Napier’s time here so far. If he’s doesn’t crush the portal, we’re toast next year and so is he.
Agreed that portal season is important. Not agreed that it’s more important than him learning how to assign a Special Teams Coordinator, delegate play calling, or not make 4th Down decisions like a kid on PlayStation.
It is far more important than any of those things. They can be rectified immediately by the next coach. Acquiring talent takes time. He needs to do well in the portal for himself but more importantly for our program.
Well, yes, if you’re proceeding from the assumption that Napier is as good as fired, then probably all he can do is stock the cupboard for the next guy. But I think the argument here is about what Napier’s most important task is to still be the coach here in 2025. Speaking for self, I think he needs to forget the gimmicks and focus more on the basics: get a special teams coach, have an OC who calls the plays from the booth, no more “game changer” nonsense, no more uniform silliness, and so on.
We just aren't going to agree here on which is more important. Notwithstanding, he can do both at the same time.
Napier has next year to truly prove himself, win 7 or 8 games and he's a good coach. I've bolded 4 games you 100% can't lose, even getting bowl eligible will be very difficult. Texas A&M and Kentucky are must wins also. I don't think we get to 6 wins given what we saw this season. Aug. 31 Miami (FL) Hurricanes Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Sep. 7 Samford Bulldogs, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Sep. 14 Texas A&M Aggies, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Oct. 5 UCF Knights Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Oct. 12 at Tennessee Volunteers, Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, TN Nov. 2 Georgia Bulldogs EverBank Stadium, Jacksonville, FL Nov. 30 at Florida State Seminoles, Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, FL Date TBA Kentucky Wildcats, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Date TBA LSU Tigers, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Date TBA Ole Miss Rebels, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL Date TBA at Mississippi State Bulldogs, Davis Wade Stadium, Starkville, MS Date TBA at Texas Longhorns DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX
Oh, we agree there. He can do both at the same time. Will he? I have my doubts. I have a feeling the next time he is asked about appointing a special teams coordinator, we are going to get a confused look and a “Why would I make any changes? I have something better than a special teams coach. I have a ‘Game Change Coordinator!’”
7 would have gotten him grace this season. Next season, it’s 8 with no losses to any traditional SEC bottom feeders. He makes way too much money to be losing games to Vandy, Kentucky, or Arkansas.
To be fair, sometimes coaches get caught in the forest without the gumption to change the game plan or process.
Who? If you’re talking George, he isn’t experienced depth , he’s our starting right tackle and was at left last week. I love the kid as I appreciate all gators. Cox, Kimber and of course George come to mind. Castoffs aren’t winning titles.
4 years if you talk to pumpers. FSU friends are laughing that we are hanging with Billy. I thought the day Florida would go with Ray Goff II would be never, but we are hoping that it’s getting better. 24 will be the the tell tale. Him still calling plays, we are doomed, my thoughts!
The same FSU morons who thought Willie Taggart was their ticket to success, and wanted Norvell fired a couple years ago.
