Ladapo is fraudulent in more than his so called medical advice Professors had anticipated Ladapo would bring at least $600,000 in grant funding to his new appointment from his previous job at UCLA. That didn’t happen. They expected he would conduct research on internal medicine, as directed by his job letter. Instead, he edited science research manuscripts, gave a guest lecture for grad students and wrote a memoir about his vaccine skepticism. Ladapo’s work at UF has generally escaped scrutiny. Yet interviews with more than two dozen current and former faculty members, state lawmakers and former agency heads, as well as reviews of internal university emails and reports, show that staff was worried that Ladapo had bypassed a crucial review process when he was rushed into his coveted tenured position and, moreover, was unsuited for the position. His dual role at UF shows how DeSantis and state Republicans have used the flagship public university to further their political goals, with uncertain benefits for students and other faculty. The university also hired as its new president former Nebraska GOP Sen. Ben Sasse, who joins several former Republican lawmakers in leadership roles in Florida higher education, including former state Sen. Ray Rodrigues, who is chancellor of the university system.
The only silver lining -- you wouldn't want this guy teaching classes, so it's a good thing he isn't. But how are they ever going to get rid of him? Is UF just going to have to pay him $260K to do nothing forevermore?
https://thehill.com/homenews/the-me...om-ron-desantis-fox-news-debate-sean-hannity/ The most unusual debate of the 2024 election cycle so far is set for Thursday, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) takes on California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Fox News. Adding to the spectacle, the moderator for the 90-minute clash will be Sean Hannity. The debate will have none of the formality of the three GOP primary debates so far. But there are real stakes for each man. For DeSantis, it is a rare opportunity to command center stage without anyone else stealing his thunder.
I don't understand why he can't be terminated for refusing to do any work. Risks incurring the wrath of DeSantis, however.
Trump’s finest achievement to date has been ruining Desantis political career. Koch Bros put the last nail in his political coffin. Bet the state wishes they had his travel expenses back for campaigning. Powerful Koch Network Picks Haley Over DeSantis for President
I also agree. This is giving parents the choice to send their kids to a mediocre charter school instead of a piece of crap public school that is crappy because the state government wants it to be crappy.
Sociology is too “speculative” a subject to be core curriculum. State leaders want Florida students to be uneducated All students entering the state’s colleges and universities are required to take core courses in each of five subject areas: communication, mathematics, social sciences, humanities and natural sciences. These are known as “general education” courses, which provide a foundation for further studies. Diaz proposed striking out “Principles of Sociology” as a social science option with little explanation. He said a panel of faculty members had introduced a seventh course as a social sciences option — a history class titled Introductory Survey to 1877. By striking sociology as an option, he said, the number of available courses for social sciences would come back down to six, and half of them would satisfy a new requirement for civics education. The change is due to a new state law, Senate Bill 266, that calls for a review of general education courses every four years. It requires that courses should “provide broad foundational knowledge” and not include “curriculum based on unproven, speculative, or exploratory content.” It also says the courses should, “whenever applicable, provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of Western civilization and this nation’s historical documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights and subsequent amendments, and the Federalist Papers.” University leaders bash plan to downgrade sociology University leaders bash plan to downgrade sociology - Tampa Bay Times
We already had the freedom to choose. Now, our taxpayer dollars will be going to some rich folks to subsidize the private school tuition they'd be paying anyways. Sociology is too woke. You know this. Can't have college students learning about it.
The misunderstanding of the voucher movement is troubling. Parents/students don’t get to “pick” schools, the schools pick the students. You can’t just go to any school you want to, voucher in hand. The very best/most exclusive schools won’t take them. Most of the vouchers are going to students that already attend private schools Report: Over 100K Florida students receive private school vouchers this year Welfare for the well to do….suckers Edit to add: if you live in a rural area sucks to be you, I guess.
This of course is the political trend in the United States and in fact, gnerally speaking, the way it has always been almost everywhere. Americans institutional memory is quite shocking, considering most people seem to have forgotten the realities of the late 19th century and early twentieth century in this country when wealth concentration and labor explotation were defined under what was called the "Gilded Age" - Gilded yes, for what 2% of the population? If that. Stunning when one considers how much American capital was concentrated in the hands of so few....... Carnegie, Mellon, Vanderbilt, Morgan, Rockerfeller. While tens of thousands die building those steel mills, railroads, petroleum fields for the meagerest of wages. I just watched the "Triangle Waist" Garmet fire documentary. Nothing like watching hundreds of young women burning to death or jumping out of windows, (8th, 9th, 10 floors) because they were locked into a facility (chained doors) with zero fire prevention. Trump or this latest round of Republican Knuckleheads gets re-elected thats back to where we are headed.......indentured servitude. Education? yeah - A copy of the King James Bible.
Not Florida but coming from the same mindset that leads to the decisions with the Florida higher education system
College indoctrinates you with how to think critically. That's why the GOP is losing college educated voters.
From Florida Politics text service Christian Ziegler accused of sexual battery - Republican Party of Florida Chair Christian Ziegler has been accused of sexual battery by an alleged menage a trois lover. The woman accusing Ziegler had been in a consensual relationship with Ziegler and his wife, Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler, prior to the accusation. Law enforcement served Chistian Ziegler with a search warrant are actively investigating the allegations, but no charges have been filed.
If Trump is elected … I expect to see a manifold increase in already staggeringly high hyperbolic language.
