Billy D Struggling Early in Chicago

Smaller schools, basketball centered schools, half the Big East is schools with enrollment below 12000.

 

Yeah… I’ve heard that too. Billy’s my guy, but honestly that just seemed like an excuse to me. I mean didn’t we have Shai Gilgeous Alexander coming to UF the year Billy left? If I remember he flipped to UK once Billy went pro.

 

He committed in Nov 2015 (after Billy was gone) then uncommitted in Oct 2016, both to Mike White.

 

Billy’s firing is imminent. Feel for him. Just not NBA coach material

 

Coach White retained most of Billy’s recruits the year he left. However, he lost Noah Dickerson to the Washington Huskies. Big PF that would have been quite helpful to Gators. Was a big loss at time.

 

I’m wishing BD all the luck in the world in Chicago….but…..if it goes south and he parts ways with the Bulls, I’d like to see him in Charlotte.

 

He definitely is NBA coaching material.

 

Noah played the five in high school and college.

 

He has done nothing in the NBA in the years that he has been there. He got to the conference finals once with a team that was already built to do so by the time he got there. He then proceeded to exit four years in a row in the first round despite having some of the most prolific players in the modern era on the team.

In the three years at Chicago, he has failed to make the playoffs, exited in the first round, and failed to make the playoffs. Perhaps if he were coaching the Knicks or some other franchise that could digest first-round exits wrapped around no playoff appearances, his job would stable.

But in Chicago, the fire for his roasting has already been kindled. Absent a drastic run of like 12 out of 15 games before the All-Star Break, look for Chicago to make a decisive move to replace him. He has been a COLOSSAL FAILURE in Chicago.

 

My guess is that he does get fired, but that doesn’t mean that he is not NBA coaching material. It means that he has a shitty roster. He also had an out of control roster initially at Oklahoma City.

 

I know that Billy is Catholic but going to DePaul would be like going to hell and even though I like Chicago I don't like it in the winter. He would have to be better than Ray Meyer. I know that Billy won two NCAA's but Ray Meyer changed the game of basketball forever by recruiting and playing George Mikan. That is a hard legacy to overcome.

 

He had a great roster initially at OKC.

Speaking of George Mikan you young guys might want to know why the "key" is called that on a basketball floor if they still do that. Back when Mikan started playing the free throw lane was very narrow and if you looked from overhead the free throw circle and the lane looked like a keyhole.

 

I don’t consider a roster of ball dominant superstars to be a great roster. They don’t win championships, and they are uncoachable.

 

In the NBA, you can’t lock the players out of the practice facility when they don’t play hard, you aren’t really coaching them up like in college, or teaching them any lessons beyond the court. Coaches generally come before the players.

NBA coaches mostly just implement an offense and defense, call plays, and substitute as necessary. Players come first and foremost, and your success is heavily dependent on them.

POP’s, Kerr, and Spoelstra seem to be the exceptions when it comes to hierarchy, but they’ve also won multiple championships.

 

Durant and Westbrook were the only ball dominant players on that team. The rest were the opposite of ball dominant. That OKC team should’ve won the championship that season.

 

Yea he inherited the best roster in the NBA and lost it all. I don’t think Donovan has gotten over that. He could’ve been the one with the dynasty instead of Steve Kerr.

 

Yes. If Durant had stayed in OKC they would have taken GS down the next year, but he went to GS instead and that was the end of that.

 

I was thinking that Harden was also on that team. Regardless, you are criticizing Billy for not beating one of the greatest NBA teams of all time that season. I don’t see it.

 

I’m not criticizing him as much as Westbrook who shot 157 times and missed 95 shots. But most people do blame a HC whenever a 3-1 series lead is blown, in any sport.
