There's being aggressive and then there's being reckless and, IMO, desperate. I've been holding back for the last two seasons, but I hate his offense. It's a muddy mess that almost seems to work against itself. All the motion isn't fooling anyone. . . but us, who must lead the league in Delay of Game penalties.

Agree with the trick play. Can’t remember any of them working. Disagree that single handedly lost the game. We actually took momentum back in the 3rd after they scored then we went up by 1. Untimely penalties throughout the game cost us. We also ran 44 times to 16 pass attempts. 73% run. Not good balance. The talk all week with Brown being able to handle the throws looks like smoke screens now. 73% run plays, ill timed and momentum killer trick play, spitting penalty, holding penalty taking away easy chip shot FG and quite bad PI call did us in.

 

I don’t mind taking a shot at that time. However, all game we saw the Oline getting destroyed. Why call that play? I would have like to seen just a straight play action.

Terrible play call, but it didn't cost us the game. Missing field goals and only scoring one TD (which came after a gift from the officials) cost us the game.

To me it was the same as saying "We really don't think we can beat you" we rather resort to trying to trick you instead of beating you in the trenches.

There is a time and place for things like that but that certainly wasn't it!

Why call that play? Probably because it worked like a charm in practice

 

Lol this is what I thought about when I saw that play "evolving" in slow-motion.

 

The grounding call was what caused the loss. I can't find a replay, but he appeared to be outside the tackle. He was outside of the hash mark, so it was close.

 

Just an awful call. With a struggling O line how do you call that?

Perfect rosters don't grow on trees but know your damn roster and don't put them in bad situations.

 

Yeah this is what I don’t understand either. Terrible ask for a young and makeshift offensive line. To me shows complete unawareness from a coaching perspective.

 

This is what gets me. I could absolutely be wrong but it seems to me BN is trying to recruit to the system he wants down the road, which seems an awful lot like Bama circa 2017, rather than scheming and playcalling for the roster he has now. I just really don't understand numerous play calls every game that destroy drives when, due to the fact of no margin for error, every possession is priceless. He seems to frequently either out-deception himself or calls super predictable plays. I just don't get it. It's like I'm watching Mike White's offense when he was coaching Gator bball. I just don't understand what he is trying to accomplish many times during a game.

 

Great call on the Mike White reference! That’s exactly what I said while watching Gator Basketball. Would often turn to my wife who played a little bit of college basketball and say “What exactly is this offense trying to accomplish?” Looking a lot like what we are seeing with football today.

 

Typically a handful of plays determine a close game. This was one of them.

After the last drive where ETN had several excellent runs, just not sure what BN was thinking. His trick plays seem to be OMG moments, eliciting WTF.

7 min on the clock and opportunity to get a TD, which was needed after he settled for a FG on the previous drive. Previous drive was also questionable - called a QB sneak on 3rd and 1 after ETN had rushed for 19 yards on the previous 3 runs. That is where you can fake a run and find a wide open TE for a TD. If that fails, then you can kick the FG or go for it.

 

If I may opine, what a trick play is designed to do is to punish an overly aggressive defense, especially the front 7. If the defense can play you straight up and feel somewhat confident (ie, not panicked about the game situation) then they patently do NOT work.

They were not panicked at all. The HC HAS to see that. He did not.
