It doesn't only start with the Coaching Staff. If I remember correctly. Upon being hired, CBN was given the keys to the Gator football kingdom by Scott Stricklin and the UAA. Most notably, he added 100+ support staff to the football program. To emulate what he had witnessed first hand at Bama and UGA. Nutritionists, strength and conditioning, academic tutors, plus eleven other people on staff that have Quality in their job title. And speaking of job titles. If you want a good laugh, go to the Football Staff page and look up Chris Couch. Better yet, Miguel Carodine, the son of a retired UF Administrator. There's no link to what a Performance & RTP / Quality Control job even entails. They literally had to make up titles for people. As a season ticket holder of 33 years, I indirectly thru the UAA, as do others like me, partially foot the bill for the Gator Football program. I'm sure there are a lot of competent people in the football offices. But, I'd bet there are changes needed at every level. Jack Welch, the CEO of General Electric for most of the time I worked at GE, was known as Neutron Jack. His philosophy was that if you weren't trimming the bottom 10% of your employees every year, you were doing a disservice to your shareholders. As a shareholder in Gator Football, in a very small way, I want the same thing. I want Neutron Billy.
I remember him trying to get some of the best position coaches that never came here in year one. So, it's not like he doesn't know who the best available position coaches are... maybe our school needs to open up the check book some more. I also saw a comparison pay scale for position coaches, and we were near the bottom of the pay scale in the SEC... that has to be increased if we want Napier to get the best available out there.
The current coaching staff has failed to attract any high quality, difference making OL. Last nights OL performance was probably the worst I’ve seen in the 58 years I’ve followed Gator football. CBN and the two OL coaches s/b totally embarrassed. Yeah, I know we were missing two starters , but the backups must be better than those that played last night. Not only was their performance inadequate but their effort level was pitiful. Napier needs to dump the current two OL coaches and find one that can recruit the studs needed, as well as coach them.
To get the best position coaches we have to pay them the "best" money.... THERE IS NO WAY AROUND THAT FACT!!! Or we can gamble on up and comers from the lower tier G5 coaches... But as it stands now the best coaches are coaching the best teams and they have more football to play. So gambling on waiting for one of them to decide to join Napier in Gainesville is pretty much a nonstarter. So, we have one viable option. Get the best from the teams that have early bowl games, or get the ones that play in lesser leagues... that are proven winners. If we had a football athletic director of operations he would have that list of candidates ready and waiting for Napier. But have no such authority/entity.
Norvell took a salary cut...BN gets $7M a year...Ive got an idea. Cut the fat and give back at least 50% of that salary because the performance damn sure doesn't match the paycheck. Use that money to go out and get the guys we supposedly couldn't afford.
