Why should he be dejected? He got paid $583,000.00 to coach that masterpiece just like the other eleven games this year with even more generational wealth on the way win or lose.
Napier has more resources than any coach in UF history. 11 and 14 over two years and looking forward 4 to 5 wins in 2024. Scared money my ass.
He’s probably a bit dejected after each loss, then he takes a peek at his bank account on his mobile app and suddenly he cheers up.
You don't usually pay a top salary for someone expected to learn on the job. That's indicative of expected immediate impact.
I suspected before, but I’m certain now. This experiment is all but over. The next six or seven games are pro forma.
Interesting you say that because there are lots that say or make this seem ok. All that say the roster the roster well it’s the head coaches responsibility to add to the roster. We all said last year hit the portal aggressively and fill in gaps. Well Billy went to the portal but definitely wasn’t aggressive. Just like playcalling last night- not aggressive at all. Never used Max’s legs at all. No push to get it to Ricky who had 1 touch. No screens, 1 slant, which all goes back to the way we lose. Called the game not to lose. Scared money.
The worst part to me is that his rebuild of the program has resulted in one of the largest staffs in NCAAF. Now, what is one of the easiest things do with more coaching staff? Instill discipline and fundamentals. You don't have to be a hall of fame coach or assistant coach to do this. Even the youngest DC in program history is more than capable of these two things. A boring playbook executed well with good tackling, blocking, and disciplined play with talent as good as UF has is an 8 win season this year at least.
If he fails he gets a Jimbo payout. No downside pressure to succeed. We have more top 100 players committed this year. If can keep that up for next 4 years we will be okay long term.
So true. He was given everything!! Largest staff, big money, facilities. The mentality piece is what is most concerning. Reporters ask a question about discipline and Billy says what would you be referring to?
At this point you have to throw him to the wolves next season. If he wins 6-8 games it will take a miracle. I wish I could say a win against Miami to start the season will inform us, but we know that’s not the case. For 2 seasons this team has gotten worse as the season progresses.
Great post. Any changes done this off-season should have been done after year 1. Almost all of the issues we faced this year were there in the first season. Anyone could see that.
Billy isn’t a liar. In the past two years I’ve enjoyed less than sixty minutes of football. Two quarters against Tennessee and less than two quarters last night, the other ninety-six quarters and change not so much.
