The thing I see the most with this team is they are too soft. FSU's defense bullied us all game long. They reminded me a lot of the 90s defenses - nasty, brutal, tackling to the sound of the whistle. We just didn't reciprocate. We need to completely rethink strength and conditioning - maybe fire the women's swim coach handling the strength program and get someone who is a marine drill sergeant because whatever we have now is embarrassing to watch.
I think with Mertz we'd hang with them even if Hunter was healthy. The offense with him is 99% better than what we saw tonight.
I love these players... they played their azzes off and if not for a few bad mistakes we win this game. Discipline is all on the coaching staff... NOT THE PLAYERS. It all starts in practice all off season and yes, even undisciplined kids can be taught to play within the rules. I feel so badly for Pearsall that only caught one pass that I can think of... Why didn't our coaches try harder to help our very best receiver get more pass plays to him? #15 on defense played on hail of a game, Watson played like he hasn't played all year long. Several Gators played like only champions play. It's too bad that these ACC refs were allowed to stink up the place again in Gainesville. That must never again be allowed to happen!!! I love this young Gators team... they will be back next year, hopefully with some tweaks...
The targeting maybe…but he was into his slide and defenseless, so it was really a cheap shot and most importantly stupid and unnecessary. Just like the spitting. Dumb and undisciplined is no way to go through life, or to win football games.
No...that's THREE losing seasons in a row (Mullen left us with one). When is the last time we pulled that off? As a fan, that's what I care about. I spend way too much time and money supporting this team to have back to back to back losing seasons. Freaking miserable.
No ETN, no chance. ETN would have scored on both of those end of the half runs. the number of guys on the field who have no business being on the field is amazing and obvious. Even the announcers are mocking some of them. tough to win with a kid who’s barely played, but the risk of a rainbow, I’m optimistic on what DJ can do based on Max’s first 3 quarters.
It’s hard to say a 1st half play lost the game, but I have to say I thought that at the time. It was such a bafflingly broken play, insta-killed our drive after Ettiene’s big return, and I’m pretty sure FSU scored on their drive. Classic momentum killer.
As a head coach don't you think you should know that you struggle in pass protection, so a slow developing flea flicker probably isn't the best call when you have complete control of the game?
