If you worked at a company and the President/CEO put out a statement like this you'd immediately be looking for a new company to work at. It's very much relevant to his temperament and ability to handle the pressures of the job.

Sure it's relevant, but it damn well better be a close call if something like this is the difference in who you're voting for. He's running against a guy who couldn't tell you what year it is even if you told him last year was 2022.

That's why I'm not a big fan of harping on Trump's tweets, his affairs, or Biden's age. I understand why people harp on it, but it's exclusively for political reasons. It's exploiting weaknesses for political advantage. Nobody just dislikes Trump over his tweets and nobody just dislikes Biden over his lack of sharpness due to age. These are just punchlines against the opposition.

At the end of the day it comes down to policy and the culture war, it's that simple.

Joe Biden's age hasnt attempted to keep power after being unelected. If that is not a disqualifier for right wingers then youre right, an unhinged tweet wont disqualify Trump either. In fact, nothing will, which was the point of my OP and Trumps famous 5th avenue quote.

One, I don’t think anyone should be in the business of dictating values to other people. If someone values in a president respect for American traditions, who are you to say that’s inappropriate? Two, you are making a large assumption that this thread has anything to do with voting for the next president. If any of my friends sent out such a tweet, you better believe we would be talking about it. And my friends are never going to be any kind of politician. Some actions are ends in themselves and not means to other ends.

Yes you do believe in dictating values to other people.

If you didn’t, you wouldn’t think any public behavior was reprehensible.

It comes no where close to rivaling the two full paragraph sentences found in President Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation from October, 1789. The first paragraph was apparently only a warmup.

City of New York, October 3, 1789.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanks-giving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

The Senate concurred in the House resolve to this effect, September 26.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

I don’t see how this follows. I’m not saying that people aren’t allowed to have their own values, just that we shouldn’t be pushing our values on other people. Eg just because I don’t think we should outlaw FSU football doesn’t mean that I can’t find it reprehensible.

Who said we should outlaw considering a Thanksgiving tweet as a major consideration for voting for President? I didn’t. I just said that it’s beyond stupid.

Words reflecting the thoughts and intentions of a dangerously deranged man projecting his own perversity onto those lawfully opposing his warped aims and criminal actions.

Trump is running against something much bigger than Biden. It is really the entire agenda of the left and the human excrement that is (and that you might literally step in on your way to work if you live in a large west coast city).

The difference is that one side believes in dictating private behavior which doesn't conform to their religious norms while the other side believes that role of the state should be largely limited to prohibiting forms of public behavior that are universally considered reprehensible.

Really? What “private behavior” do conservatives generally want to dictate?

What forms of behavior on the left-wing agenda do they want to prohibit which is “universally reprehensible?”

What does Trump’s Thanksgiving tweet have to do with the 2020 election or the infamous 5th Avenue quote?
