Will the Gators' MBB team crack the NCAAM Top 25 After Taking Baylor to the Wire?

I wish we could have won our game against Baylor. We showed true grit, however, and battled right to the end on a night we were without our starting center and had a key guard under the weather.

Coming into this pre-NIT tournament in NYC we weren't even among the top 43 teams in the country when the Top 25 was released last week. Even though Virginia, to whom we barely lost, was ranked #24. But playing Baylor as tough as we did should catch some eyes, particularly since this game was a national telecast and a highlight of the schedule this afternoon. And, three other teams ranked in the top 25 lost today: #17 Alabama, #20 Arkansas (I think they now have three losses), and #23 USC. Both Alabama and USC lost to unranked teams.

So what do you think? Do we deserve to be in the top #25? And, if so, where do you think we land? And, how long has it been since the Gators' MBB team was ranked?

At minimum we’ll be in the “also receiving votes”
should move up in tourney rankings on ESPN

we deserve to be ranked and would be if the voters watched the game. But odds are they just see a loss so we probably won't be ranked.

Doesn’t matter to me at all. We know how good they are and the rankings won’t accurately rank us anyway even if we were in there. With our full squad we’re a top 10 team.

I don’t think we’ll be ranked this next poll, but all good.

win the next 3 and we’ll be in the rankings for sure

The human polls are beauty and blue-blood bias polls. We won't be ranked, but we are good enough to be considered a top-25 team.
I'm more concerned about beating Wake Forest, a P5 team, on their home court. That might get us in the door but it's also not likely to be an easy win. We need to get Handlogten back, get Richard out of his 2-game slump, and get Clayton 100%.

Wake went 19-14 last season and..... 13-3 at home. They beat Duke by 11, Semis by 15, 19th ranked Clemson by 10, Notre Dame by 17 and North Carolina by 7 all at home. Pretty nice home court advantage don't you think?

Will be The Gators 1st true road game of the season. Hope the team will be done celebrating the win.....aaaah, close loss to Baylor before Tuesday.

I also don't think we'll be ranked, but count me among those who think this team could be pretty good - easily Top 25ish - if we say relatively healthy.

We're getting some good guard play, Pullin is a key stabilizing force, and I love how our big guys get after it!

Good to see Kugel get going offensively against Baylor (he's always good defensively). Seems like he just needs to slow it down some. He did that much better in the Baylor game, but you saw him try to be too quick with his shots on the one play where he got like 3 offensive rebounds in a row and kept putting it back up very quickly. Seemed like if he just slowed it down on one of those putbacks, he could have easily scored. Fortunately, that was the exception against Baylor.

No. Two losses already early in the season. Clayton played/shot poorly in both losses. Could he have trouble adjusting to top quality team defenders? Almost wins are not wins. Will see how we do versus Wake and in SEC. Upset a ranked team first.

They were terrible against us, but they are four and one with a win over a top 20 team.

This is part of the criticism that KenPom levels at the human polls. It feels like you can predict 80% of their behavior by using a model with one rule: “lose and move down”. FSU has only lost once, so there it is.

There are nine SEC teams that are either in the top 25 in the AP poll or received votes. We are not one of them. That is fine. We need to start winning against good teams and working our way up.

    Agreed. It's November, who cares.

At the same time, even without seeing every SEC team play this year, no way we're 10th in the conference RN.

    Patience...
