The ncaa is the big schools. The inmates rule the prison. The lower inmates( players) got some leverage against their will.
This is happening, and because there is little to no regulation of NIL, it's likely not a violation. Ohio State AD Gene Smith has claimed, in written testimony, that some players are demanding as much as $5000 just to visit the school.
Long story short, the IRS allows a certain amount to be gifted from one individual to another tax free. I think it is around $17k. A couple can do double that amount. The NCAA has stopped trying to enforce paying for visits. I have no idea why, maybe someone on the board does. As long as the people paying the recruit are not Boosters, this is allowed. The trick is that recruits have to make the school think they have a shot to get paid. It’s one thing to get paid if you are a Top 100 recruit going in the spring ahead of your senior year. It is another thing to do it in November when a recruit has been committed to a school for a while. A coaching staff has to think they have a shot if some folks are going to pay $5k. So recruits need to make it look good. That said, I think Filsaime signs with UF. He is likely taking a fun trip to Austin to get paid a nice tidy sum.
Well, it all sucks, IMO. Amateurism, and the purity of the game, is dead. Capitalism...blah, blah, blah. The game worked great for a very long time when the players "just" received free higher education, room and board for 4-5 years. This slippery slope is repulsive and ruining the game.
The NCAA knew this and took the 5 visit limit off and allowed for unlimited visits for high school kids... A-holes.
Not to mention a Crimson Tide that is an Elephant, a Death Valley stadium in a Louisiana swamp, and, a Volunteer that gets paid by NIL and also with illegal recruiting money...
Will depend on if he wants to visit FL after that again. I think he will to meet our new DB coach. I wonder why some of our fans immediately go into a negative mindset...How different is it from Grimsley visiting here?
There are a handful of posters on here that love to wallow in it. The will appear quickly with negative news and slink back into the dark when things are normal. It’s weird.
Because negativity is the natural state for our fan base on Twitter. The same people are freaking out other coaches haven’t been fired yet but the dietitian was let go. Honestly it doesn’t matter what comes out it’s something to bitch about. If our only All SEC selection comes back most of Gator Twitter will complain.
I'm not sure the dietician was even let go. It said she was selected to join a National board of directors in her field. And you don't usually get selected to something like that if you suck. Sounds like she finished off the season and they just parted ways.
It's more of a coping mechanism for all the disappointment. WRT this particular situation if you consider the following it would seem logical to conclude he is not going to sign here: 1. He's from Texas 2. Visiting UT late. 3. UT 11-1 with a shot at the playoffs. 4. UF 5-7 with no bowl game. 5. UF just fired a DB coach and does not have one announced yet. 6. UF D (and secondary specifically) looked bad this year. 7. Texas NIL probably has more money than UF's. There may be more.
