A good one, it’s about Max Brown. I am sold on him, I really like what I have seen from him, he had poise, threw the ball well and his running ability is whole new dimension for the Florida offense. He has said all the right things so far and I think there is a very real possibility that he has a great game this Saturday. This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a QB come off the bench and perform well. I think in some ways FSU is superior to us but they have some vulnerabilities as well and are also working with a backup QB and I think Max can keep us in this game right up to the end or perhaps even win it for us.
We have to play complementary football. That means complement their turnover with our score for a 14 point swing…not the other way around. This team is mentally fragile and we need confidence boosters like this to win the game.
We will have a lot more to form an opinion on Max after Saturday, but I share gbranton’s feeling from the sampling we’ve seen. The kid has a lot of positives and appears very composed. Need him to stay within himself Saturday. We have a lot of talent around him.
Yes, we have to muster enough offense to offset our defensive woes. With the right game plan I think Max paired with Etienne, Johnson, Wilson and Pearsall are capable of keeping it close. There’s just something I like about Brown that makes me think he will play well. 10-12 in the fourth quarter of an SEC game against a Top 10 opponent looked easy for him and he had a nice zip on the ball with good ball placement. He was better in the pocket than Mertz and had a good sense of when to pull it down and get some yards when the pocket collapsed. Throw in some RPOs and a few designed QB run plays and I think the Gators can move the ball on them.
His running ability is definitely a wrinkle they are working on right now. It would not surprise me a bit for him to use his arm to hurt them, he can sling it.
He could stretch the field with his arm, pair that with a credible run threat and perhaps it puts pressure on FSU, they have a lot more to play for than we do. That is in our favor.
I think Max will be fine. He did just fine on the road against a very good team. I'm more concerned with our lack of pass rush and coverage against a pocket passer on a good team with time to find a receiver than I am about Max.
I have a feeling, too. We’ll score early on a scripted drive, FSU will score 5-6 TDs, then we’ll score a couple of TDs after the game is out of reach and we’ll lose by 2-3 TDs.
This post was crap in the other thread, and yet you copied and pasted it here? Lol There's no way in hell FSU scores six touchdowns (much less six STRAIGHT touchdowns) in the Swamp at night with a backup quarterback starting his first game. Come on now.
I didn’t copy and paste this. What’s wrong with having a negative opinion about the outcome of the game? If I’m wrong, I’m wrong.
Some run at the first sign of adversity, that’s just who they are. They are always scared and never do well.
We will certainly find out how well Max can read defenses and pass because the Noles will certainly stack the box and sell out to stop the run.
In a way, I'm less worried about Brown as I am the rest of the offense and coaches in terms of how they approach the game. Coaches will need a plan to beat stacked boxes, O-line will need to block some guys, etc.
