TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Florida law blocking Gov. Ron DeSantis’ publicly funded travel records from the public is unconstitutional and the state should be required to turn them over, asserts a legal challenge filed by The Washington Post.

The Post’s lawsuit marks the first effort to challenge the law, which the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature passed just weeks before DeSantis officially announced a run for president.

GOP legislators said that the law — which applied not just to future travels but also to trips DeSantis had already taken — was needed to protect the safety of the governor and his family. But Democrats said the move was made to help out with the governor’s political ambitions by shielding his travel from public scrutiny.

Not even conservatives should be in support of this law. It was dumb from the start and I'm glad someone filed a lawsuit

LOL. The entity that has a right to access the records, but is being denied due to the new law, has no standing? Do you have a clue as to what standing means in the legal context?

I am 100% ok with a 1 week delay on releasing the travel info so nut jobs can't track and attack.

But once safety is no longer an issue, than it should be 100% public information and the only reason to hide it is to allow him to misuse public funds.

“Standing” basically means a person or entity that has a redressable injury (an injury or harm that can be corrected or or remedied). A news publication has a redressable injury because it has a direct interest in reviewing records that allegedly should be in the public domain. The court can grant it access to the records, thus giving an effective remedy to the alleged injury.

BS... I posted my original thought before that person posted jack s#%$. I knew the definition before you even posted your attempt to discredit my post.

I also never read that phantom post that you are attempting to rationalize as the reason why I know what NO STANDING MEANS. You are presenting a logical fall icy in an attempt to prove me wrong... LMFAO!:confused:o_O

One more thing... The Washington Post has NO STANDING.

You clearly don't know what the word means as it actually pertains to court filings. Granted, you may have Lougled the term and read the Black's Law Dictionary definition, but you clearly have no clue how to apply it.

One would be hard pressed to name a plaintiff with more standing that a national newspaper which has extensively covered the travels of our governor who also happens to be a candidate for POTUS.

This link is to the Florida Attorney General's website where she lists Florida Sunshine Law court cases. A quick perusal of that list indicates a whole of newspapers and TV stations had...wait for it...STANDING to sue and won many of the cases.
