The general theory is that consumers and customers are diverse so it would make sense that in order to best serve them a diverse employee base would make sense.
Rick, I can meet you part way on this. Certainly there are DEI efforts that go too far. I wonder, though, what kinds of DEI initiatives are you referring to that constitute reverse discrimination? Can you please share? I also wonder why you appear to be shouting through the keyboard. What sort of DEI initiatives have caused you harm or why are you otherwise so insistent? The case in Iowa appears to mirror what has happened in other states. In Iowa, the state gov tried to eliminate all DEI initiatives until they were made aware that accreditors, certain grant funders, the NCAA, and (oh by the way) the federal government require elements of DEI. I think to patently dismiss DEI as you have here is a mistake. There are so many positive impacts from ensuring equal opportunity and social variety (women's rights, equal opportunity for people with disabilities, diversity courses to name a few).
interesting the Iowa Board of Regents who voted that DEI isn't needed. (in pic below, the woman below the president voted against the abolishment) Member Bios | Iowa Board of Regents (iowaregents.edu)
Brian Lamb was head of DEI at a bank before Desantis appointed him to the Florida Board of Governors. These were his words after the George Floyd incident Where appropriate, universities should consider the integration of D.E.I. best practices into their academic curriculum Now of course his tone changed once Desantis decided he wanted to run for POTUS and began to listen to Chris Rufo https://www.flbog.edu/wp-content/uploads/DEI-Workgroup_MEMO_Final.pdf
D*E*I. acronym A racist ideology created by a bunch of liberal idiots in order to make them feel as if they have something useful to contribute to society; A sad, pathetic attempt from the left to create a social justice rallying cry for its cult members; A political ideology, Dumb Educating Imbeciles, designed to suggest that minorities are not capable of being successful without the intervention and helping hand of the White Man; a covert mind hive designed to rob minorities of self respect; a savior complex for gender studies majors. synonyms. ~ blame game; un-American; blackmail Antonyms ~ freedom; merit; hard work “My daughter just got her Philosophy degree at Wesley and landed a great job at the Starbucks downtown as the D.E.I. Coordinator.”
Other than the four women, obviously pure merit. Merit, defined the way it should be, by traditional “fit”.
Nature and monarchical health prove that diversity is harmful. Inbreeding and monoculture produce superior specimens.
Given that the Florida GOP wrote laws to create and fund DEI programs and appointed people to implement those requirements, does that make the GOP racist?
The Dems know that their racist Quotas are about to come to an end... the DEI is a way to confuse the issue by treating employment the same way but with different language... They will still use the color of your skin to dictate hiring practices without using soon to be illegal quotas.
Well, thanks for answering the question. Your working definition of DEI is biased, narrow, and poorly informed. Some of the key elements you omitted: The promotion of acceptance and respect for people from a wide variety of cultures The provision of equal opportunities for people with disabilities The celebration of arts, crafts, cuisine, and clothing (i.e culture) of global societies The provision of equal access and opportunity for all people, regardless of race, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion The development of opportunities for people to develop empathy for others Since you answered my question, however so snarkily, I will answer yours: No
Thanks for your response. Given that this thread is about DEI in universities, I'll take this to mean that you believe the hiring practices for universities to be based upon quotas and somehow constituting reverse racism. The evidence, however, suggests otherwise. Fast Facts: Race/ethnicity of college faculty (61)
