There have been times when Napiers clock management and late game play calling could be questioned. However, blaming him for ETN running out of bounds is just not something I would do. I'd bet my life, ETN knows better, and probably cussed himself before going back to our sidelines. Kids in high school know what to do there. I think the hand off and play started poorly, ETN spent the first 3 steps just trying to secure the ball and it affected his concentration enough that he was just trying to not lose yards, in doing so he went out of bounds.
No question, ETN made a mistake, in those situations, at at timeout, your remind the kids 200 times to stay in bounds. Maybe we did, who knows. But the point is it just compiles on top of pour coaching decisions throughout Napier's tenure. Coaches should be making decisions that win games, often close games come down to coaching, making those right decisions throughout the game, limiting stupid sub penalties, and saving 3 timeouts for the end of the game. Time management is obviously questionable now as well, add it to the on going list. To often it seems we waste our last possession of the first half. When your paying a coach the amount of money Florida does, they shouldn't be learning on the job. Bottom line is this, If napier makes it through next season, it means we won a lot of games, and in turn he's the real deal. It's going to take perfection to get to even 7 wins next season. Out of the gate, there are only 3 "easy" wins next season: Samford, UCF and Miss State -- and as previously discussed these are not gimmies given our previous matchups with these teams. After that Miami is the easiest game and Texas A&m given head coach turnover. That gets you to 5 wins. Then even to get to 6 wins, you have to beat UGA, FSU, LSU, Kentucky, ole Miss, @ Tenn, or @ Texas. if napier wins 8+ games next season build him a statue Best case I see us getting to 6 wins - with the 6th win being Kentucky.
UCF will be an easy win?? The Miami game will be a war. The new aTm coach will start with a good roster, better than UF.
ha, hence why I used quotes around the word "easy"...... and we all remember 70-52 vs Samford, they had 42 points at halftime.....
Yes - in post #30. One of the mods went in and edited out “idiot” and replaced it with “guy”. I’ve seen people get vacations for less than that.
I just hope they can coach up Max Brown, and have him game ready because I honestly do think we’ve got a decent chance against FSU. The big worry is they will probably blitz a lot to get in the head of an inexperienced quarterback. We will probably be doing the same.
That could set up well for us. Tell him to try to beat the blitz with his legs and look for receivers down the field. Maybe we win a sandlot game.
4-8 is a very real possibility next season, and I strongly doubt Napier will get fired unless some coaching savior appears out of the blue (or rises from Lake Alice holding a sword and a pigskin.)
Well the administration has shown they aren't immune to poor decisions like keeping Muschamp around for a dead man walking season long after it was clear he wasn't up to the job, so possibly so.
Because you have seen evidence of this so far this season? IDK, maybe we were trying, but it just didn't look that way.
Just finished the GNFP video breakdown of the final series. To put it mildly, James wasn’t happy that Napier took #3 off the field by going into a 12 personnel formation for 2nd and 3rd down. His point was UF lacks the bodies/OL to run that formation effectively, especially when all it takes is one player getting beat to blow up the run in that formation. Which is what happened on 2nd and 3rd down. On 2nd down, the TE got pushed 3-5 yards into the backfield and tripped up Etiene. On 3rd down, we couldn’t seal the edge and the play got strung out to the sideline. We ended up running into a 9 man box on second and third down due to the formation, instead of using the formations that got us to that point. After the loss on 1st down, it seems Napier went into a shell and played for the FG.
I think fans are feeling this way because we've not met expectations for years and that is more on McElwain and Mullen at this point, not Napier. The man just got here. Would we have loved to see it all happen in Year 2? Sure, but damn, I think fans are negative not because of Napier, but years of not getting back to where we need to be. I'm not saying Napier is some magic pill, but I'm hopeful and willing to at least see how 2024 goes before I get super negative about Napier.
Time for you to accept a truth. You're not a Gator fan. Have you hated the Gators since Meyer left? Just can't believe how negative people can be in Year 2 and nearly beating highly ranked teams that are obviously a couple years ahead of us on their coaching changes and program rebuilds. Just saying, if you find yourself hating a team for 15+ years... maybe you're not an actual fan but a hater. Save yourself any future grief and just stop following the Gators and trolling fan boards.
