I’m not saying I agree or disagree with this - but this was EXACTLY the sentiment that got Bryan Harsin run outta Auburn. Fans were livid that he was so fixated on process and togetherness that he wasn’t talking about winning.
Thanks for setting me straight on the eligibility part. I was thinking we were 5 - 7. My bad. Florida is
That's the sad thing, they continue to play hard and their coach rips another win away from them by crapping the bed with his coaching. This culture and togetherness won't last with a coach that does not know how to win. These kids aren't stupid, they know what a winner and loser is.
Coach didn't rip a win away from them. He had them one 4th and 17 stop away from upsetting the #9 team in the country in their house at night with a backup freshmen QB with almost zero game experience, a 3rd string MLB and a patchwork OL. To say coaching is why we lost...cmon man. Give coach some credit for what he did right/well. We should've lost handedly last night. His "crap the bed" coaching is largely why we almost won.
Bottom line for me is that this is a very young team missing key players in many positions. They played well enough to win but came up short. Top 10 team on the road and played well. I’m still excited about the future.
Coaches and a bunch of real young players and banged up units came real close to upsetting a real good team at home at night in the cold. Lotta stuff to whine about if you like to whine. There’s lots of stuff to whine about even when we’re good. Whiners will find a whine every time under the guise of not accepting mediocrity — for something they have essentially no control over. But In the end, you gotta get the wins, or eventually you’ll be looking for a new gig. But man, at times these guys look close. Super proud of our team, coaches, players, and the whiners who are keeping it real. Go gators!!! Beat the clowns !!!
to get the wins, coach like you want beat down the other team? Settling for a FG and putting the game on the D to win it is not smart. But knowing how conservative he is and Max Brown fumbling earlier made it a losable game.
HE LOST! He gets credit for wins, not for trying. That time is over. If you can't see what this guy is doing to lose games, then continue to live in the sand.
Are you saying that Napier is actually that inept as a coach? To be honest with you, you are the one that does not know how to win. Especially in the last two minutes of this game last night. Napier rips away from the team by crapping the bed? How many wins did he really rip away? Was 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 ? Out of the 6 defeats, there are a total of 3 games that you can legitimately question Napier on. The first three defeats were to superior/better teams. That leaves you with three defeats. Lets look at those three defeats. At this time, LSU and Missouri are better teams than UF. Now we are down to one defeat/team, which is Arkansas. On this game Napier again had a substitution that you can blame the lost on. As for the Missouri game, You cannot crown the goat horns on Napier. He did a great job in getting the team ready for this game and having them pull off an upset. You have to give him credit for having the 2nd string QB ready to come in after Mertz got injured. This guy did not crap his pants and he played very well. At this point you are going to cry about the clock on the Gator last possession. Your are off target, If you are going to pin this issue on Napier. Napier's play calling (2 running plays) forced Missouri to burn two time outs. Napier called a 3rd running play was logical except Etienne bounce it out of bounds thus stopping the clock. Had that play stayed in bounds the clock would have run another 30 seconds. The clock would of had a 1 minute and 6 seconds at after Smack's field goal instead of 1 minute and 36 seconds. Please note that the Missouri 4th and 17 play started with 38 seconds on the clock. Had Etienne stayed in bounds, that play would of started with just 8 seconds on the clock. That play took 8 or more seconds to complete and the game would be over with the Gators the victors. Napier scripted the last minute of the game correctly. Had Etienne stayed in bounds, you would not be crying in your beer. You are right that these kids are not stupid. They saw how close they came in winning this game. They also know that Napier got them ready and kept them in the game. Now lets stop the bitching and fully pull for the Gators. If Billy can get them to play the noles close, or even beat them, that fabled recruiting class will be signed and coming to Gainesville. Your bitching with other sore Gators could keep some of that class in coming in. Ga
NorthGaGator is correct. Yes there’s been some questionable coaching decisions this year, no doubt. But last night was not one of those moments. I believe it was 4 and 7? The right call is to kick the field goal in that situation and let your D make a play. If ETN stays in bounds, most likely a different outcome statistically. Our defense had opportunities to end this before it got to 4 and 17. There were two chances for our DB’s intercept the ball. At some point your players need to make a play. I’m hoping that time is next week.
No one is arguing to go for it on 4th down. People are arguing to be more aggressive on 2nd and 3rd down. Also, if we had not gone out of bounds, the same time would be on the clock. They would have had 1 less TO, a TO they did take before the 4 and 17 but not to stop the clock. The time situation does not change.
Mizzou took the TO before their 3/17 play. I remember this because I was rather loudly asking Billy to take a TO before the 4/17 play. Yes, it would’ve been unconventional because it would give Mizzou more time to come up with their best 4th down play. Given the situation though, I thought it might be more important that UF take the time to dial in their strategy for the game hinging play. Analytics probably reads don’t take a TO on defense there.
I was off on the number of time outs that Missouri had left. However, I still stand by Napier on how he called/scripted the last few minutes. By the way the going out of bound play resulted in Missouri in saving their their last time out. Had the play stayed in bounds, Missouri would of burnt that last time out on that drive, instead of before their game winning field goal. More aggressive? We have true Freshman, a second string QB (Max Brown who looks like a winner), with a total of 9 snaps as a QB before this game. Are you expecting that this kid (or any other kid) could step in an pull of a Tim Tebow like victory? His 11 plays against Missouri were very productive! He played like a champ!
