I hate it for both kids. Both seem like solid guys off the field as well. I think Travis' ability to extend plays outside of the pocket will hurt them more. I personally think Norvell is a one trick pony, much like Jimbo and Travis makes his offense look better than it actually is. Norvell has cleaned up the culture there, which was no small feat. Maybe even harder than CBN. His benefit was doing it in a much easier conference. He still went 3-7 in 2020 and ducked out of losses to Clemson and UF over "Covid Fears" Also, much like Jimbo, he is capitalizing on some key teams down years. Ironically Jimbo's one trick was placed in their ring of honor last night. 1.) I thought it was poor timing to do that on their Senior night. 2.) If I'm being honest and the same injury happened to him that happened to Travis, my response would be, "Karma".
They have everything on this game, Undefeated season, trip to the playoffs.. There gonna play tight.. perfect time to choke.. Plus... Mabey looking forward to the ACC championship???
They played a 3-8 university of North Alabama team. That's a bad team in a in a peewee league there is not much you can take from that game. Max on the other hand with nearly zero game experience came in against the #9 team and did well.
Besides being ancient history keep in mind that Rooster won with his legs, Rodemaker is a drop back quarterback. While the our defense has been shredded by by quarterbacks with either skill set they have done far worse against dual threat qbs. While a wish Jordan Travis a full recovery we really lucked out with his injury. If I were betting I would still put my money on half-ass U but with Jordan Travis out we have much more of a chance of pulling an upset.

Hoping for number four. Although they have different skill sets the back stories of Kyle Trask and Max Brown are remarkably similar. Both were overlooked two stars who made the most of their opportunities when the starting quarterbacks (Feleipe Franks in the case of Trask) were injured.
It’s too bad the body of work for Max Brown is not that big. It’s unfortunate that Brown did not get more snaps in game earlier in the season. I assume FSU will load the box and dare us to pass and protect. If he can hit on passes early in the game, I believe it will open things up and give us a chance to upset the Holes.
If Billy allows. His strength is his legs. 1. Read option- needs 5-6 straight read Carries if not more. 2. QB Power- play to his strength 3. QB draw- again playing to his strength and it will keep linebackers, honest and also open things up to throw the ball, but will Billy allow for this? Brown is very quick, strong and very athletic. 4. Brown can throw the ball and we have to know that he is an exceptional athlete. There’s a reason he was able to play on a top five in the country baseball team not that he got a lot of time, but ask Kevin O’Sullivan about the athlete that he is. It’s so important that Billy build a game plan around Brown’s strengths. Again kid can throw it and do well but gotta have 8-10 designed runs.
Great points, I have no idea why Billy did not set up specific packages for him throughout the year. Not like this is outside of the box thinking and it’s clear to see the kid is an athlete.
I knew the North Alabama topic would come up so I cited last year’s Louisville game to show that Rodemaker has more experience against peer competition. Last year’s Louisville team was 8-5 and was rather close to beating FSU, which implies they were tough enough competition for him to not fear Florida. Rodemaker also has the advantage of practicing the game plan that FSU probably put in place against Florida using North Alabama as a scrimmage. To Napier’s and Sale’s credit, they did flip over to plan B with Max Brown rather well, but this was the first time the Gators ran an offense customized for Brown. In previous action he ran the same plays designed for Mertz. Going back to FSU, they have already modified the offense on multiple occasions for their backups so they get the nod in tactical advantage. The onus is on Napier to continue modifying this offense for Max Brown and the reshuffled offensive line rather than continuing the 4-year install plan that he had stuck with prior to the injury to Mertz. More importantly he needs to encourage Austin Armstrong to pause the installation and simplify the defense against FSU. If they get bowl eligibility then they can choose to revert to that 4-year install plan for the bowl game, but for the FSU game the offense needs to be customized for Max Brown and the defense needs to be simplified.
We do, but will our defensive coordinator and head coach play pass it or will they be extremely aggressive, and bring the pressure on a back up quarterback that is a very very fair question. I hope I am wrong, but I think Armstrong will go passive, and play zone , which we are not strong at at all. Go man and always bring an extra man so he knows has to get rid of it quick.
To his credit or detriment, Napier is ridiculously methodical based on plans he has developed over the past decade. Anything that deviates outside the 4-year plan is a struggle. I hope he is learning that in order to survive at Florida he needs to be more adaptive. He might not make it beyond year 3 of his 4-year installation unless he can “redline” those plans he developed over the past decade.
FSU is planning as we speak. I hope Billy has a good schedule practice wise. I’d bet FSU is meeting tonight to talk about how important this game is, look at film, and talk strategy. I hope our coaching staff knows the importance of the game.
He’s got to become more adaptive. We can win this game but he needs to outcoach Norvell, which I’m not sure is possible. I also am concerned about the urgency and mindset of the staff. Beating Florida state is something that should be top priority every year I’m not saying everyone Has to be Ra Ra but gotta instill importance of this rivalry. On the methodical part, I think that has really affected us in a negative way in the portal and he has to open his mind some and get some guys quick and trust his gut and not go through a long drawn out process with regards to evaluation. I would venture to say that some of the evaluation has not been effective if you look at some of this year‘s portal guys, so why not move quicker and try to grab some of the best of the best. An example I would give would be the Simmons kid who is starting at tackle at Ohio State.
FSU started planning for Florida before the North Alabama game, which is why they fell behind even with “Heisman contender” Jordan Travis starting. Agreed. If Napier is not putting additional emphasis on rivalry games he will not last long. I would venture to guess that some of those millionaire donors arguing with rival donors from the comfort of their yachts would be willing to scrounge up a few extra million for that buyout if Napier does not beat a few rivals during his 4-6 year install plan.
Exactly. Adaptive is what Napier needs to become in order to survive in the SEC. Being methodical got him this far, but becoming adaptive is what he needs to become if he wants to go further.
yeah, that’s one of my biggest concerns that he thinks we should win in year four and five and he doesn’t understand the urgency to win in a much more immediate fashion.
