So is being ashamed of the players repping your team. It was kinda crazy constantly seeing a list being posted by media outlets showing who all has been arrested each season. When it came up in conversation it started to feel a little shallow, the only response was "well at least we're winning" but problem is when the winning stops.... and it always does for any "Dynasty", and that response don't work anymore all you'll have is the mess that was left behind in that wake of "success by any means".
Curious how you got that out of what he posted? I mean you can be proud that UF won 2 nattys under urban and still wished he had vetted his players more. Why not claim the nattys when out of 100+ players overwhelming amount of them were goods kids.
Just playing devils advocate but Hernandez’s brain was Swiss cheese upon further inspection. I’m not sure what CTE does as far as decision making and behavior etc but I took a whole new look at the seriousness of it when Jr Seau took his own life. Not making any excuses for what he did to be clear.
Simple, we don't win those titles without those bad apples period. No team wins a title with choir boys. That poster was telling another he's not a gator for accepting that reality.
Miami today showed what having thugs means. Two idiotic slaps called as personal fouls and it arguably cost them the game. Certainly those 2 p f s vastly reduced their chances of winning. We can win with high character kids. But no one argues we have lots of work to do.
Actually clemson won two nattys with really good kids. But again Miami looked like idiots today with thugs.
I’d like some guys with a general nasty disposition towards our opponents. High character guys that are maybe just generally mad dog killers on the field. Gimme some Butkus, LT, Tatum, Night train lane, Deacon Jones, Lott and Nitschke type guys.
Matt Elam was a head hunter. Hit like a ton of bricks. He created intimidation. I hate seeing these offenses just run up and down the field with qbs and receivers that you can’t even look at sideways anymore without drawing a flag. I agree it needed to change but I sure miss defenses of old.
What a bunch of BS. Climb up on that high horse and parade around with "good guys" while our program sinks into apathy. I just don't get why people look to their football team or coach for a moral compass. To honestly sit here and say having a clean rap sheet is better than the Spurrier or Meyer years is laughable. We just came off the worst defensive performance in gator history. Our recruiting class is falling apart. We are miles behind Kentucky and Mizzou We can't make a bowl game. We will have a losing season. Double digit lines against rivals are now the norm. We will be sitting at home watching UGA and FSU play for the national championship With all that, u want to talk about "good guys"? You don't get it and neither does Napier. This is the same mindset and you deserve each other, but not the University of Florida. You are the problem and should root for another team. The fans and staff should understand what the Gator standard is and shouldn't be satisfied with anything less.
As a proud UF alum I've always been proud of our players and coaches for the most part through the decades. An fsu alum I know ditched his team after he'd had enough of thugs about 20 years ago. I've always said I'd rather be a Vandy fan than win with thugs. Winning is not worth selling out for. In all kinds of weather. If someone feels otherwise that's on them but is bad for Gator Nation. I'd rather they turn to ESPN2... AKC National Agility Dog Championship is on for another hour fifteen.
Other than the guy that was running a drug operation out of the athletic dorm about 10 years ago or the guy with a stolen firearm under his front seat that didn't miss a single snap, or the two murder suspects on the B'ball team, sure. Lots and lots of the happenings in Tuscaloosa have been conveniently swept under the rug.
I think we need to hear them sing if we are gonna have choir boys. My point is, it’s good that they represent the university well, but at some point they need to win football games.
I don’t think we need bad apples to win. We just so happened to need players that were, coincidentally, bad apples.
