The defensive play call was fine. On 4th and 17 Nunnery started about 6 yards off the LOS and dropped about 5 more when the ball was thrown 11 of the 17 yards needed if you are keeping track. In fact, if you stop the replay he is literally directly between the QB and the WR, problem is, he is 5+ yards in front of the WR with NO ONE in front of him that would justify his being where he is. If he just drops 3-4-5 more yards, the play is dead.
So he rolls out and throws an incomplete pass stopping the clock? Running the ball was the right call.
We are still a very young team guys. Nothing is going to change that this season. We still make freshman mistakes and that will not change this season. We are going to mature and add much more talent... Napier is the right man for the job so forget about taking everything out on him.
I felt we were the better team tonight. Proud of our guys though. I think I’m prouder of them tonight than in any of our wins this season.
Amazing how people who have never met you can tell you exactly how you feel and react. Seems to be a lot of that going around tonight.
After the TD, the first half offense was ineffectual. In the second half, there were several plays that caught Missouri seriously off guard. I don’t what that means about OCs, but it was nice to see.
99.99 % of coaches at any level kick the field goal. They don’t have the luxury of knowing your opponent will drive down the field and convert a 4th and 17. It happens. We’ve all seen it before. It sucks and is bewildering. But it happens.
They fought for Billy. You could see how bad they wanted this W. I think it may be a galvanizing loss for us.
It means he adjusted and called a good 2nd half. And did over 50% of that with a VERY GREEN backup QB.
You are correct! I do not know any top rated coach who would not have taken the field goal with an inexperience QB playing. It is a small miracle that we were that close to winning. It was a great job coaching to get that close!
The better team converts on 4th and 17 not give up a first down on 4th and 17. Once that happened I knew it was over just like when Arkansas lined up in an empty backfield spread. I knew then that Jefferson was going to run it for a big gain in OT.
Certainly, much sooner than the 10th game of the season. We play a lot of young players, more than most; but every team plays a number of young players. But, I agreed with what I think your premise is.
I really don't know why you're quoting me and then spouting off about stuff we weren't talking about. That said, I've posted in other threads that if changes were to be made to the defensive staff LB coach is the first place I'd look.
