Dude is a douche . Will be fired in 3 years. drinkowitz I mean that not a coaches name. Change your name to slaughter or something.
This one is hard to take. The team is a 44-yard Smack FG and 4th and 17 away from being 7-4. The season would feel a whole hell of a lot different right about now.
The only reason this game hurts so much is because we SHOULD HAVE won it. We had Mizzouri stopped dead to rights, 4th and 17. We get a stop. Game over. Huge win for this team over a #9 Mizzou squad. Bowl eligibility. All of it. Huge momentum going into the FSU game. We had it. In our grasp. We could smell it. And then we didn't cover their best WR and gave up 4th and 17. That's why it's a heart breaker and gut puncher. If UF missed their FG we all would have said "Oh well we came close and battled our butts off with a top 10 team on the road". But BECAUSE we were on the verge of winning and STILL found a way to lose... That's what hurts. We literally gave it to them when we could have just taken it ourselves. This team isn't ready. They have no maturity. They're fighters. They don't give up. They have spirit. But they lack maturity and experience. They will likely be formidable in a couple of years - but they've got to find ways to win some of these games.
Our guys played hard. Hate it for them. Missouri’s QB has been there for a while. They are solid but not that much better than us tonight. I was hoping we could kick that field goal with about 10 seconds left.
This game is a testament to how the team is being built, from the ground up with young players who are of high character and fight. That created a lot of mistakes but if we can get the recruits (i.e. if the administration gets out of the way) over time, we'll have a chance.
Yes, even with this D, it's surprising. This D has disappointed but a 4th and 17 is still incredibly hard to pick up.
Considering our struggling OL, I think our offense has been surprisingly good. No it doesn't look like the Fun-N-Gun. No it doesn't look like the spread option. But its effective. We're scoring enough points to win, and moving the ball on the ground and in the air. In my opinion, the primary advantage of getting an OC would be to free CBN from that role on game days. What we DO need...desperately...is an upgraded OL. We need 2-3 stud DT's from the portal. And 1-2 stud, SEC caliber LB's. I know those are all big asks. But if we had those, we'd be a 8-9 win team THIS year, even with all our youth. With improvements in those positions, the future is bright. We can all criticize a particular play call/tendency of our OC right now. That's always true. But, on the whole, I'd give Billy an B+ on the season, esp given our OL. And that's as high or higher than I'd grade every other position coach or coordinator.
When you play a team that has a kicker that can kick the ball 61 yards to win a game... going for the field goal on our last possession was unwise, IMHO. Damn... we were so close to playing our best game of the year. Ricky Pearsall was on fire... Etienne was on fire late in the game... and receiver Kahleil Jackson made clutch plays too. I'll have to re-watch that game to understand just how close we were to winning that game, even after all our hiccups. It's Max Brown time in Gainesville, and I like what he brings to the table.
Game's like this are a gut kick with a steel toed boot, would not shock me if we sleep walk next week into the off season.
If Ettienne stayed in bounds they have zero timeouts left. Obviously the 4th and 17 was the killer. But without any timeouts at least you think they have to settle for the longer kick. Maybe they make it anyway. But that “missed detail” basically bought them the time to set-up the chip-shot.
That ending was absolutely terrible.... But in an odd way, going forward vs FSU I think we're harder to defend with Max Brown. FSU struggles with dual threat quarterbacks, and Brown is a good one.
That was looking like our best win of the year, but the moment Etienne went out of bounds I knew the secondary would fail. This one is the worst loss of the season for me.
I’m not discounting the fact that Mertz was hurt or that Mizzou is #9 and has a good football team…however, some teams find ways to win games, and other teams find ways to lose games. Losing is a habit. We seem to have that habit.
As disheartening as it was to lose, there were some bright spots: 1) we battled, until the last three plays 2) Our OL played better when 76 went out. 3) Despite his last minute mistake, Etienne is a special RB
