Like everyone I wasn't a fan of just trying to kill clock and go for the FG knowing our defense can't be relied on. BUT, if you're a coach and you make that decision, and your D gets to a 4th and 17, you have to think you made the right call. I still can't believe they converted that.
This!!!! I don't know why folks are mentioning anything else. 4th and 17 should never be converted, especially with 0 pressure on the QB and WR. That had to be the easiest play Missouri had all night. lol
And what is the difference in the end result? They are still driving with a chance to win the game. They just now have 1-2 more timeouts than they did before. The defense isn’t our strongest unit, not at this point in time. They had been gashed most of the game. I would rather go for the throat, instead of playing it safe. Roll out Brown, with the option to run or pass. Tell him if it isn’t a great opportunity, then run it or go down. Same result as the dive plays, but a lot more upside to converting a first down. Instead we run into a defense expecting the interior run.
Offense was very good, which is why his ultra conservative play was unacceptable. Go for the jugular, take the fg if required.
I agree, I wanted to see more zone read with brown having the option to keep it, but imagine he fumbles. People would be screaming why ETN doesn't have the ball. That jet sweep with 3 might of caught them off guard as well, anything getting to the edge but in bounds.
Yeah, it hurts, but this was supposed to be a blowout. Plenty to second guess in the last several possessions. Left them too much time, especially when all they needed was a fg. 4/17 was the kill shot, and you knew it was gonna happen. The defense has been used & abused for weeks. That unit needs massive attention before next season.
We really need an upgrade (dudes and experience) at linebacker. I like Armstrong and I think with those things he’ll be a top caliber DC. Sucks to lose but youth is a big hill to climb.
Rewatched it a couple times. Mizzou has a guy #28 waiting on Brown if he keeps it. Now it's possible he could still have beat him around the corner but it's not as wide open as it appeared at first glance. What is wide open is RP on his motion across going to the sideline. Edit: He is not a true Freshman
These kids played tough to the last second. They are playing their butts off. They deserved the confidence of their coaches to go for the first down in the red zone. Really sad. I hope BN owns up to it. And please, no analytics speak. You cannot give that offense with that kicker a minute and a half to drive and get a FG. If we know that, you'd think the coaches should too.
