Hopefully we have a scripted series for the start of the second half. We had a drive against LSU in the second half where we brought in two tight ends and no Wilson and just ran it down their throats on every play, all the way to the end zone. Something like that would be nice.

On the play where Mertz got the IG penalty, we went 4 wide with Johnson lined up in the backfield to the right of Mertz. Ball was snapped and Johnson spent 1 second in the backfield before releasing on an inside route. The left side(from the OL perspective) of the Missouri DL ran a twist, and our OL didn’t adjust and to the twist and let the interior DL get around the edge to pressure Mertz. Whether that sack was on Mertz drifting back instead of stepping up in the pocket is anyone’s guess.

 

But look at our last 4-5 possessions. It’s what you do with possessions. Can’t go 3 and out, 5 and out, 4 and interception.

 

Mertz timing appeared off to me.

Defense doing alright. Afraid they will tire out later in game and things will open up. Offensive struggles aren’t surprising because it’s the dreaded road game and Mizz defense is good. Last weeks offensive performance was fools gold because LSU D is garbage.

Now what did we see coming out of the half? More of what we’ve seen all season. Meh?

 

There's still time tonight, but it seems like we just can't put together a complete game, other than UT. As noted this week and several times in past weeks, the first scripted series is usually pretty good, but what we saw after that series tonight has been dismal. The defense is playing about as well as it can given what it is. Still wish we could tackle better. First drive of second half is critical. If we go down much further, it's over.

Need to go run heavy now but how? Mizzou is really stout against the run. This board is going to lose its mind if we go three and out with all runs. Spread with quick outs to Johnson and the tight ends?

We're giving up all these running yards and explosive plays but it's only because inexperienced players aren't getting in position. If they could ever figure it out, we could look like we did after the first four games.
