The young man has done a great job for the Gators! I’m Glad he decided to wear the ORANGE ! AND BLUE!
I can see a case for him if he came back next year and played even better than he did this year and as a team we rack up more wins , specifically less losses than this year. He has definitely improved hisnstock as a QB , and certainly has made himself some futire momey with his play this year but The overall teams performance and record will prevent him from being in the conversation this year. Obviously there are some studs vying for the Heisman this year with some gaudy numbers that jump out on the stat sheet.
Paul Hornung was the only player on a losing team to win the Heisman, and had he played for some team other than Notre Dame, he wouldn't have come close to winning.
Not just any losing team, a 2-8 Notre Dame losing team. Hornung had 2 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions. Johnny Majors finished second and, Tommy McDonald of Oklahoma finished 3rd after averaging 7.2 yards a carry on Oklahoma’s record setting undefeated team. (Undefeated for the third year in a row) Oklahoma destroyed Notre Dame that year at Notre Dame. A pretty good RB from Syracuse finished 5th. Some guy name Brown I believe it was. Jim Brown, I wonder whatever happened to him.
Ray, Love this kid and fingers crossed we hit the portal hard and add 2 receivers. Can you imagine Graham with Boardingham, Wilson both a year older and then we add 2 more reliable veterans. Reality is, we are very very thin at receiver. We are not sure what’s going on with Jean. Mizell will redshirt and after that who is there? I like Jackson but we have to add veterans. Thinnest I’ve ever seen us.
Gotta add more veteran/portal receivers. We have nowhere near the depth we need. Jean- not sure what’s going on but we cannot depend or count on Freshman. Book it Billy gets 2 in the portal. If not it will be a major mistake.
Depends on how you feel about the award. If it should be for the most outstanding players that epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work then they don't matter very much. If it's for who looks the shiniest and wins the most regardless of level of competition or being a terrible person then I guess they are all that matters. You're right though in modern times the latter is how it's awarded.
I figured they’d just give it to the Boulder coach. He’s pretty impressive pushing himself around on that little scooter.
I will happily shred Austin Armstrong till I am blue in the face. He's terrible. Will also defend Mertz as the guy has really just been a warrior all year long.
Mertz has been the MVP of the team to me, but seeing Max be able to run like he did makes me wonder what this offense may have looked like with a dual threat QB at the helm.
Possibly, but losing 5 in a row, Mertz coming back, and BN's job on the line could make a difference. I hope he signs
Negative comment: We had it last year remember … Positive comment: I actually think the offense and Napier have evolved since last year, as a play caller he really is learning on the job .. sadly that’s the case, but I would say he’s improving overall Edit: looking at our schedule, what games did the offense lose the last two seasons? Maybe Kentucky in 22’ … We can be better, but we are competent on Offense
I don't think recruits care much about wins and losses. I think Mertz coming back is a PLUS if I'm DJ - 6th year player to learn from. NO chance he's SEC ready next year. Hopefully gets some meaningful backup snaps. Billy's job is not on the line. That's just a "reality" among fans. Everyone who matters (in authority over him) knew this was a multi year rebuild. He gets 3-4 years, barring something catastrophic/scandalous.
Elite recruits do not want to be tied to sinking ships. We will see how it goes, but if we lose next week to f$u that will be 5 in a row If he goes 5-7 and this recruiting class are both outside the top 10, he will not make it. I'm rooting for him.
