Sports is a manufactured distraction that separates us. Exactly how the PTB wants it. I still need it though as the real world is even scarier. Be sure to tune into Gator basketball tonight.
Inexcusable. Heard the ref took some grief after but that kind of egregious one sided game affecting penalty should be made an example out of. We gators complain about officials like all programs but we have had some real headscratchers over the years cost us games.
Ref should have been fired immediately after the game for that call. If that happened occasionally then maybe these blatantly incorrect calls would stop.
Again, let’s assume he didn’t have control before HE hit the ground. So what?! There’s no video that I saw of the ball actually touching the ground. So the movement of the ball is irrelevant. The ball never hit the ground and was fully possessed after he hit the ground. As long as the ball doesn’t hit the ground, it’s a catch.
I expect this years FSU game to be equally frustrating since Stricklin apparently allowed ACC refs back into the Swamp. If we show up to play and anyone thinks the ACC officials are not going to do everything they can to make sure their only chance at getting an ACC team into the playoff happens, you're setting yourself up for a bad time.
Are you saying Swindle in the Swamp 2.0? Would not surprise me. I recall a game eons ago, I think in late 70s, our QB (Dr O?) threw an incomplete pass that hit the astroturf at FL Field and bounced up into a fsu defender's hands and was called an interception. Everyone within a 75 mile radius saw it except the refs. One of my favorite absurd calls was a Spurrier. Danny broke huddle came to the line and audibled. He waved a player into motion and the ref threw the flag for..........simulating the snap.
Yes!!! WCJB showed that clip as part of their “station identification” for a good year after that. I was a student way back then
Look up thread man. I posted a photo of the ball actually touch the ground. Many posters have concurred the ball did touch the ground. Here you go if you don’t want to scroll back. Before you say the ball can touch the, yes if the player has control but if you watch the video out thread you see the ball sliding around touch the ground and then slid back up to his chest.
We will need rectal surgery after the semi game with their zebras trying to get them in the payoffs. Sorry - the playoffs.
What you can't see there is where his right hand is. If the ball is between his hand and his chest., it is still a catch. You just can't tell and it was originally called a catch. Should have stood. Another point of view: What is the call if he catches the ball, hits the ground with possession, and then the LSU defender rips it out. Catch or no catch?
Microscoping movement of inches to the point of dispute days later was not the original intention of instant replay in my opinion. Yes it was to scrutinize a foot in or out of bounds or if a catch was in fact a catch but the level of scrutiny as well as continued lack of agreement once a call is made is an overuse of the idea and takes away from the overall spirit of the play, game.
I’ve blown it up on my iPad, and I still don’t see the ball touching the ground from that photo. I don’t think that photo is incontrovertible evidence. Your eyes might be better than mine.
This is my point. You can guess, but you can’t see. And because of that the call on the field, whatever it might be, should stand.
The photo is tough on its own, but looking at that in conjunction with the video slow-mo, you can see that the lowest white line circled is the football. And like Pa, I'm not making any claims here about what is allowable and what not for a legal "catch." Just pointing out that it very much does look like the ball touches the ground. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
This is a really great point, and I think this call can be used in the future to show the benefits of not diving for a ball when you don't have to. Not only does it make the catch easier, but you have the opportunity for more yardage. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Maybe he's a referee on the side. I however is sick and tired of fkin referees officiating gator games. I want to see AI's officiating football games.
