I paid $6 in 93 to see wuerffel lead florida to a win against Heath Shuler and Tennessee. Think I paid something like $20 for season tickets my freshman year in 96. Football was fun then. I was younger and sports generally was more "important " to me then but I have to say it hasn't been fun for a while. I know it's speculation on my part but I'm convinced Saban/Smart changed the rules and playing field long before NIL. Kirbys law is just one example of the lengths they have taken to be where they are right now. There shouldn't be excuses at this point since NIL and portal tampering has become standard operating procedures but here we are.
As I remember, he set the standard in college football by making $2 million a year and set the standard in professional football by making $5 million a year. He’s made a lot of coaches a lot of money.
Spurrier was one in ten million. Even his former haters acknowledge that now. But Gator fans should recognize that waiting for the second coming of Spurrier is like waiting for the second coming of Jesus. Not to be sacrilegious or anything.
If you were a Gators fan before 1990 you are lucky to have that perspective. And know it's great to have a coach with character.
I agree about character. But most football coaches don't spend a year at the Vatican as training for teaching people how to smash into each other.
I have no idea what my parents paid in the mid-70s for my first cocktail party but I did get to let Wes Chandler become a hero that day even though we lost.
This is something that haters from other school never take into consideration when they dismiss SOS as one of the best coaches in SEC history. They have NO idea just how unbeatable he and the Gators were in The Swamp.
That really is remarkable. I wonder what Sabans home record is. I think we had a home won streak at one point that was several years if I recall.
