Being written in an article doesn’t make something true.

Probably have to be at least 65 to know who Lou Saban was. :)

Have you been to either campus? I have, and it is nothing short of miraculous that SC has a blue blood football program, while UCLA remains mired in mediocrity. The UCLA campus and overall environment are absolutely amazing. I can’t for the life of me figure out why they are so pedestrian. When I visited the USC campus, I legitimately felt as if I had just stepped onto the set of Boyz N’ the Hood. No hate, but the contrast is staggering.

UCLA and the surrounding area are gorgeous. But Pasadena is a good 45 minutes away. And many UCLA students commute because the area is too expensive to live close by.

USC is located in the middle of South Central, and so is the Coliseum. Only about 5 minutes from campus. USC has spent millions making the area better. I was there in 1992 before the riots, and if you think the area is bad now, it was 10X worse back then.

USC being more central helps with recruiting. Especially the lower income area talent. They are raised on USC football from birth. There's also a lot of prep talent in Orange County to the south, and that's less than a 1 hour drive to USC. Well over an 90 minutes to UCLA. USC generally gets the best talent from lower income schools in the area, and can plenty from the OC.

One reason USC was against Oregon joining the B1G was because the flashy Ducks have been very successful recruiting inner city LA kids. That used to never happen.

Last, LA has never really cared for UCLA football. It sits behind the Lakers, Dodgers, USC football and UCLA basketball. It's even worse in the Bay Area. An average Stanford, plus CAL, plus San Jose St. crowd added together is smaller than a 49ers crowd. Nobody cares about college sports in the area.

If they win does he keep his job? If so, for how long? If not why not do it now or wait until after the cal game?

A lot of coaches that had good track records. I wonder how much the changing landscape of how recruiting, facility wars, staffing etc played a part in their failures. We know recruiting has always been dirty but I believe we are at a new level of how programs are operating. Coaching college sounds miserable right now....except for their insane contracts of course.

Cool. You have evidence to the contrary? Let's see it.

I read what I wrote and it's pretty clear to me. . . and probably to anyone who actually reads it. Nowhere in either post did I suggest USC sucked or had a lesser track record than UF. You saw what you wanted to see because you still have an axe to grind with me over the Kiffen/Mullen comparison.

The three successes were Napier, Cristobal, and Dykes.
