Chip Kelly likely out at UCLA...could he be our OC..only 1000 pages to go

The only bell we would be getting would be his son, Kade Bell. Kerwin is doing a fine job at HC at each of his stops.

 

True for all of the programs receiving hundreds of millions of dollars from Phil Knight. For all of the others... I'm not as sure.

 

And never really has. Always in the shadow of USC.

 

I see Kerwin as the eventual HC at East Carolina. Perfect fit for him.

Not a surprised Kelly is washing out at UCLA. The Rose Bowl is a good 40 minutes from UCLA campus, and UCLA football has always been behind the Lakers, Dodgers, USC football and UCLA basketball in the town pecking order. Kelly is also someone who doesn't enjoy recruiting. Give him the Oregon recruiting machine with Uncle Phil's Nike money along with Marcus Mariotta, and he'll have a great team. But at UCLA, the best he could do was with Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Kelly might make a decent OC if he didn't have to recruit. But not sure if it will at the college level. Might be a better fit for the NFL.

 

Given his lack of interest in recruiting, I think we can all see where that would have led. Basically, Mullen. Maybe a couple good years due to playcalling followed by total collapse when the lax attitude toward recruiting rears it's head.

 

Maybe because it's such a select group anyway? You know, the fact you got there puts you in the 1%.

 

He may be, but that doesn't make you a good college coach where non-football activities are 80% or more of the job. Ditto for the NFL in many cases. What it makes you is a potentially good coordinator.

 

And, really, nothing to indicate they "should be good" other than USC has been good in the past. In many ways (located in major city, no stadium of their own, etc) more in common with USF or UCF than UF or FSU.

I’m not smart on his interest in recruiting, but seriously how do you know for a fact that he isn’t interested in recruiting.

 

Football coaches are like car lot managers. They get fired where they are at and go right down the street and get a job doing the same thing.

You serious, bro? I’m assigning you some homework on USC football before you utter any more nonsense. SC has more National Championships than UF and FSU combined. And they have more money than we do. It’s one of the premier programs in all of college football.

 

It's pretty well known. I'm not the only one mentioning it. I'm pretty sure the article mentions it.
