This is a seriously traveled artery and will really impact commerce and convenience. Suspected arson, motivation unknown, exacerbated by the storage of a lot of flammable materials underneath the highway.
Who the hell stacks that many wooden pallets under the overpass? Seems like the feds who control the interstate would have something to say about what gets stored near or under their roads. Oh yeah, who cares, it's california.
To allow combustibles to be placed under or near a road that serves thousands a day is on the city officials. The fires were so hot it caused spalling to the concrete. Dumb, dumb, dumb
Wonder what insurance policy limits the firm leasing the space had, who approved the lease, and who was responsible for inspecting the leased area to insure compliance with the lease?
I remember years ago here in Tampa a tanker truck went around the corner too fast and turned over causing a fire and it melted the asphalt and steel of the overpass on the Veteran's expressway over by the airport. That was a complete accident however.
I remember that. Trucking deregulation really creates hazardous conditions. The drivers are under immense fatigue and stress, and the inspections for equipment and packing too infrequent
There has not been a deregulation on driver hours of operations. If anything they have gotten stricter and with mandatory electronic logs, drivers can't keep two sets of books anymore. https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-service/summary-hours-service-regulations
I thought I had read about drivers being under immense stress and fatigue. I'll see if I can figure out what I read and see if they can be harmonized. Thanks
trucking is heavily regulated now. hours worked, slept, etc all have to be tracked and the new gis systems make it real easy for companies that want to know where the truck is and how fast it is going at all times.
I was there for work flying out that day. Also a man was shot and killed on the MARTA moments after I passed through that station. The smoke was so black and visible for quite a while into the flight.
I think I was thinking of these stories or even before the current regs were passed. Thought I read a piece. Should have looked up current regs Trump administration to ease truckers' drive-time rules Found this study from 2015, which may not match current regs. Not sure how to interpret Surveying the Impact of Work Hours and Schedules on Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Sleep This is behind a paywall - may try to get the library version Surveillance and the Loneliness of the Long-Distance Trucker Either way, not sure what I read. Should have checked first
