She’s correct only in one regard, that allowing foreign state sponsored “influencers” and networks to operate with impunity actually is a national security threat in the big picture. The question is what to do about it. It’s not like email or open www protocols. Social media are closed networks. So why can’t these corporations competently get a handle on their “bot problem”? That being said, Haley’s “solution” sounds like heavy handed regulation in the other direction. But no doubt a lot of the most vile online creatures are either bots or wouldn’t act as they do without that anonymity.
Social media is a mess but this was an oddly specific, empathetic, and impractical campaign promise. Especially for her trying to fight her way up. She’ll hear it from both sides. Especially from Dear Leader.
Haley is pretty thoughtful. I think she will reconsider. As Bling sez, this is a real issue that needs addressing in some fashion. She's more in the ballpark than these idiots that wanna piss away trillions building tanks, planes & ships.
This is what I was thinking as well. There should be some way to prevent a bunch of bots run by “bad actors” or even “good actors” from filling social media with garbage.

Saw in the linked tweet a reminder that Thomas Jefferson wrote under a pseudonym. “National security” is a dangerous word. The Patriot Act was bad legislation based on National Security. If you don’t like their mysterious algorithm don’t use it. I mostly have quit twitter cuz I don’t like it. I don’t need to “see” their algorithm. It’s a private company.
