No, that would not change my mind. I still think they're pretty much the same guy and the records back that up. Like almost to a tee. NC's won as OC's for legendary HCs. Both have done well where expectations aren't very high, and poorly where expectations are high. That said, and for all the negatives, I'd still take Mullen's stint at UF over anything Kiffen did at UT or USC. Not sure what you would base a contrary position on other than recent hype, which Kiffen gets. But, again, look at the resumes. Almost identical. Again, if thinking Kiffen is better helps you sleep at night, have at it. You don't like him. You're mad. We get it. But, in short, it's a baseless position tinged with a lot of emotional baggage.
And I added sarcastically that it was hardly a "wiff" and probably a blessing in disguise. What's your point?
I’m not sure why you keep saying I’m a Mullen hater and a Kiffin apologist. I’m not sure anyone is saying those things. Why do you feel the need to defend Mullen when no one is attacking him. It’s really weird.
I was responding to @gtr2x on this comment: “Mullen should never have been hired at UF.” My point is he wasn’t SS’s first choice. What’s your point?
If you were the A.D. at Texas A&M. Which one would you hire right now if you had to choose one of them?
Because I made an innocuous comment about Kiffin being no better than Mullen and certain people freaked out and tried (unsuccessfully) to make the counter point.
IDK. At that point, who were we going to get? I guess, in an alternate universe, maybe? To be fair, a couple of those years under Mullen were pretty fun. Kind of Meyer lite. Nice run, but left the program in shambles. And like Jimbo, completely quit on us that final year. It is what it is. Oh, and back to the "wiff". Gun to my head? Kiffen for no other reason than current hype. Especially in the current hype-driven NIL paradigm. No gun? Neither. Honestly, don't follow the rest of college football enough to really have any suggestions. In the SEC, they could do a lot worse than Mark Stoops, who would probably come pretty cheap compared to Jimbo or any other "big name". Lincoln Riley was a "big name". How'd that work out?
I’d never associate myself with Kiffy but if winning was the only variable, he’d be on a short list to give him a shot. Does he have the fortitude to put in the work is my biggest question. The top guys never quit working. He’s a playcaller for sure but does he have it in him to grind for it.
Like Mullen, I don't think so. Maybe it's easier there, but easier than USC when he was there? Granted, he's probably learned a lot since then, but can the dog change his spots? Like I said, Mark Stoops has done a great job at Kentucky with those limited resources and he seems like the kind to put in the work. Plus, I think the Stoops name carries some weight in that region as well. Who knows. It will be interesting to watch.
Not sure Stoops could recruit well enough. Kitty was still wet behind the ears when he was at USC and has come along way in my opinion. I don’t know if he has the grit to tough it out or not and my money is still on him humping your daughter, if he ever got the chance.
I take the opposite position. I think that Mullen and Kiffen are both too flawed to be great or even good coaches.
Kitty is getting him a brand new coloring book coloring though at a big school soon. That’s the good thing about speculation as you get to see it play out and he will crash and burn or he will be good. I hope like hell he crashes in Burns because I don’t ever wanna see him at Florida.
Being a great offensive coordinator does not mean you are a great head coach. How many shots has kitty had. It feels like a dozen and the best he has been is okay.
Funny, but I get it, you're a Mullen fan. He's all yours. He never came close to an secg while at State and you know it. Id take Kiffin any day over ur boy. Let's see how long it takes Mullen to get another major D1 job.
