You’re absolutely right. We need to pass some laws against “attempted murder,” “assault and battery,” or the like so we don’t have to wait until a victim dies to start rounding up the culprits.

 

Im curious. I dont necessarily think your OP passes the test. What is it you are looking to debate, or discuss? There are lots of tragic crimes. Why this one?

 

Don't you guys worry. Arrests will be made. And I bet they will be made in a lot less time than it took the authorities in Georgia to arrest Ahmaud Arbery's obvious murderers.

I acknowledge your point. Do you acknowledge mine that it’s silly to assert you have to wait until a victim dies before charging the suspects with any crime?

 

I don’t recall any thread here ever being questioned purely based on relevancy. Why are you questioning this one?

If 15 kids beat up and kill a kid regardless of color that is News in relevance to the horrific nature of the crime and this overall issue on bullying.

If 15 white kids killed a black kid there would already be riots on the streets.

I can’t say whether race was involved but if the 15 attackers are black and victim white, I’d be shocked if race wasn’t involved.

yeah the post seeming to assert you can’t arrest anybody after somebody is attacked until the victim is dead was one of the more puzzling ones I’ve seen On the forum.

I would hope that you wouldn’t have to. Otherwise you can just murder anyone if you have enough people participating.

 

Sure. Charges could be made before the victim dies. But I'd guess the authorities in Nevada want to have a really good idea of who to charge before they start arresting Black people in a highly publicized politically-charged case.

 

Seriously? There are sound and compelling reasons to wait to file charges if you think the victim might succumb to their injuries. First, you don't want speedy trial to start running and Nevada has an exceptionally short one. Second, if you charge someone with "assault and battery" and a suspect pleads guilty to it, you've created a potential double jeopardy issue that might prevent the State from upping the charges after the victim dies.

Not rhetorical but isn’t that how it works? If a gang of people punch and kill someone, they are all culpable. Not just the person who’s punch killed him. Which I doubt can be determined. Why wouldn’t they be? Accessory to murder is a serious offense. The defense might go for manslaughter vs 2nd murder or even self defense. But people go to prison for a long time if they unintentionally kill someone in a bar fight with just a punch or two.
