It is exactly the same with where you draft a player and what you are forced to pay them and when they become an unrestricted free agent. If you get it incorrectly, human nature can kick in and a person with some resolve becomes arrogant or possibly even self doubting. Right-sizing is about the only thing you can do to prevent this from occurring. I like it when players go all "Maurice Jones-Drew", who was in the draft the same time as Reggie Bush. Bush got all the accolades but Drew was the better pro player. Anyways, he wore "32" because it reminded him that all 32 teams passed on him in the first round. It gave him an edge. Paying too much for a player...and a coach...can take away any edge and gives them a field of clover to munch on endlessly.
At ol miss? I doubt it. If he goes to a top school, that’s a whole different opportunity. He won’t build ole miss into a machine and neither will anyone else. They are a stepping stone.
I think the two Kyles, alone, answer that. Once Mac's recruits were gone we saw how poorly Mullen did, on and off the field.
Isn’t that the standard operating procedure? Bob Stoops and I think Mike Shanahan both did that to us.
A&M will end up dishing out more than $100M in buyouts and whoever they bring in. Keep in mind A&M paid $$$ to FSU in order to get Jimbo and they'll most likely have to do it again if they go after an elite coach with a huge buyout.
A school as filthy rich as A&M should be able to manufacture the perfect head coach through AI and robotics. Forget human beings like Meyer, Kiffin, etc. Just go with the Six Billion Dollar Man (whose technological origin will remain a closely guarded secret).
He got some good recruits at A&M, but was unable to find one named Jameis Winston, and that made all the difference.
Actually I do know Ole Miss fans and they are quite frustrated that he can't win a big game. In most of them he can't even compete. All you Kiffin defenders out there could you please let me know what he has ever won as a head coach?? A division, a conference?? He gets tons of praise from me as an assistant but as a head coach he has nothing in a trophy case that I know of.
