Well, we finally made a QB look like a Heisman finalist who actually will be.

  2. I think the defense is too complicated for these athletes to learn and execute in one season. Both Toney and Armstrong talked about being multiple on the front and back end. Assuming they work on tackling in the off-season and maintain continuity of scheme / playbook from year to year we are stuck with a bad defense until we get continuity.

Poor tackling and bad angles are a result of PPC. Sorry for the honesty.

This feels like some grand conspiracy, beginning with...? Mullen and Co. are "smart" and yet, this is football. They weren't playing soccer and now we have a bunch of soccer players on the football team. The leftover pieces should be enough to get to middling with some quality coaching and game planning.

This sort of feels like "Mullen and Co. 2.0" Sort of disconcerting if you ask me.

Common denominator in both situations: Stricklin. He hired both.

Defense is also one of those things where a hole anywhere essentially creates a hole everywhere. If one guy on the defense is in over his head whether that be due to youth, ability, or injury... teams can pick on him all game and the defense as a whole suffers.

I'd like to see this defense get faster and keep reloading. I'd say to focus on a certain position group, but I think we can use all the help we can get right about now. Not that we have nothing on defense, but all of it can get better.

This is nowhere close to the defenses we had between 2011 and 2016, and those weren't exactly the glory years.

Perhaps. To me though, it feels like the opposite. A slow, thorough program re-build, emphasis on recruiting, which takes years to reap the benefits. To me, none of that sounds like Mullen. It sounds like what was promised when Napier was hired.

I'd say it sounds a LOT more like Norvell than Mullen.

Yes, another example demonstrating the foolishness of thinking one person alone is responsible for the failure of a team, be it a head coach, a coordinator, position coach or a player. Anytime someone says, "It just CAN'T get worse," be prepared to hold many a beer and watch. It CAN get worse.

Perspective is a valuable, yet excruciatingly painful teacher.

This all started with Randy Shannon in 2017.

The Defense showed some occasional life on 2018 and 2019, but it’s generally just gotten progressively worse since then.

I thought 2021 was rock bottom, then we looked the same in 2022, and we showed some spark this season but it looks like the same old crap.

Hopefully the help that’s coming will make all the difference.

If giving up 700 yards and the QB setting NCAA records is the right direction, I think we need to try the wrong direction.

Perhaps, but my reply was a response to the concept that Grantham is being vindicated. And to that notion, while the DC has changed, most of the players have not. And so, we have a lack of coaching acumen or a bad fit or entitled players? And yes, it feels much more Norvell's approach.

Remember when we were 112th in yards per play against? Yeah, 129th now. Top 5 worst.

Looks on the bright side, just a few more spots to drop before reaching the bottom.

No one even touched the LSU QB on a 50 and 85 yard run. Not one person. We look slow on D. No pass rush. Don’t cover well. Don’t tackle well. D may be the worst all time for UF football. Arkansas scored 3 points versus a terrible Miss
State team that TAM blew out. Then Arky scores only 10 thd week after playing us. Arky went for over 500 yards against our D. Then they give us 700 yards to LSU. No, not improving. This is what happens when you hire a 30 year old DC to go up against seasoned SEC coaches. In over his head

Grantham’s defenses gave up third and twenty-three a few times every game, Saturday night LSU didn’t have to worry about that because they never saw third down.
